And I'll make this clear for the 1000th time: Anyone ( and we both know who you are, I see you lurking ) who wants to have a conversation about this or anything is more than welcome to sign up for an account and chime in. I do not make it a habit to block people ( two in more than 12 years and with good cause ) and all viewpoints are welcome. But this is not the echo chamber some are accustomed to, so if you make a statement, you better be prepared to back it up with fact. I doubt a single one will take me up on that though.

Just when you think you've witness peak stupidity around here, something like this comes along. You have got to be shitting me. The wrong people are being chased out. That goes for the entire city.

As you may or may not have heard Wheelock Rides closed their doors over the weekend. Why does that matter? That happens to be the same company that has been contracted to provide rides for the 182nd Chemung County Fair. We have already reached out to different companies including a well known one in the area. Once a new one has been found and a contract signed I will let you know. This will not stop the demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls from still going as planned. The contract for the concert has also been signed already so The Oak Ridge Boys farewell tour will also go on as planned.

Start suspending more of their asses, and we'll see how strong their convictions are. Although I'd hazard a guess from the amount of face coverings, it can't be too awful strong.

I understand there could be potential liability. But it doesn't seem like the liability is reduced when the City issues a "permit" for and charges $50. Feels like the opposite. The City would be less liable if I just happen to wander downtown on my own and am accosted or injured, the City has some defense that "I" bear took a risk (whether I was just strolling or illegally collect litter without a permit). But once they accept my "fee" and grant a "permit", then they're making an implied statement of approval.

The River Friends are 100% correct. The disrepair, garbage and creepy elements downtown do keep people away. Not just tourists, but those of us in other parts of the county (and likely even residents from other neighborhoods in Elmira) feel safer parking and walking in Corning, Waverly or one of the shopping centers up the road. I'd love to hear a statement from the new Tourism Manager on what she thought of the walk they took.

Okay, I know I’ve had a couple beers this evening, only a couple, and certainly not enough to make me hallucinate. But why else would I be seeing reports of “exciting news” that Elmira is getting another new hockey team? And we’re supposed to believe that this is the solution, and this is what’s going to turn Elmira into a “hockey town” after almost 25 years? Surely the CCIDA has heard the quote: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” That quote is attributed to Albert Einstein but is said to have actually originated with Narcotics Anonymous in 1980. So are we to presume that either someone is insane or on drugs to keep doing this same thing, over and over, that has yet to work??

Source So, it seems that the primary objective of these 'protestors' is not to bring about "change in University policy to divest from Israel, etc. That goal would include civil negotiation....like I dunno....relocating to comply with the campus rules to show good faith to the other party. But nope! They clearly prefer disrupting campus operations over engaging in adult conversation.

I can say there has been no discussion of rebuilding the old secretary's building at any of the Ag. Society's meetings. We are booked with getting things ready for the fair. The front page of the fairs website has a bubble map that's shows where everything is going to be. It will take a few years to get it where we want it, but this year is a giant leap. https://chemungcountyny.gov/1072/Chemung-County-Fair

We LOVE the Starlight Room! Our food has always been wonderful! They have a great gluten-free menu with a large selection of dishes, so I'm actually able to order something other than just the salad I'm stuck choosing at many other places. Starlight is our go-to place for ordering out.

I just sent an email to our cable company to ask if they'll be carrying this. "Boomerang" worked for a while, but the problem with that network was they seemed confined to Hannah-Barbara content only. And granted, there's a lot to work from there, but not enough to sustain a long running cable network. It'll be interesting to see what the original content they have planned is. Some behind the scenes or historical programming pertaining to animation would be a big draw I bet.

He deleted his first public response to the Letter. It was long-winded and seemed to miss her entire point in an effort to defend the conditions downtown. He called her letter a "tirade". Ignored that it was addressing the issue of litter in and around the waterfront, and addressed her as if the whole point of her 'tirade' was to complain about homelessness. Then called Chemung River Friends (and presumably their hundreds of volunteers) "hostile"' Here's a screen shot was a grabbed before he took it down.... For her part, Ms. Zilinski maintains that the group did request an in-person sit-down meeting, but that was ignored/declined by the Mayor and Manager. She offered email copies of a request they made a month ago. For all his preaching of "constructive dialogue" it doesn't appear that he has much interest in finding out facts before making knee-jerk replies that later are suppressed to protect his "constructive dialogue" persona. He's a piece of work. Seems a few politicians that lean on their religion to show people how "honorable" they are, also have zero issues with deleting posts and blocking constituents to maintain that "honorable" façade.

I think Cuomo isn't wrong, but he's conviniently overlooking is own part in creating and encouraging the division.

They can repackage and try to sell this as many times as they want. But the fact remains, this is not a "hockey town" and won't be. Quit trying to cram it down our throats.

Sorry for the late reply. The space under the grandstands is still there. It was rebuilt when the grandstands were rebuilt. The food vendor spots behind the bleachers that burned down was not rebuilt. Code and health dept would not allow them for various reasons.

It’s pretty common throughout human history for life-altering challenges to be “revelatory” experiences. Having to fight for oneself tends to inspire appreciation for what they have, as well as instilling a sense of "reverence" for self-reliance. And I am happy to see the change in him. Granted, it’s also becoming much more common for people to be encouraged to claim victim status and veer toward an entitlement mentality when faced with challenges. Fetterman “could” have that. Lots of people do. (“Whoa is me! I was dealt a shitty hand. Now the world owes me!”). But fortunately for him, it seems he may have discovered that, instead of “gimme” (because I’ve suffered) handouts that might make his handicap existence more tolerable.......his own motivation and perseverance has been far more effective in improving his circumstances.
