TTL News 319 Posted August 3, 2022 After a recent viewing of the 1989 version of Batman, the question once again arose: Who played The Joker best, Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger, and why? Or were both performances so masterful you can't compare?
Kevin 344 Posted August 3, 2022 Nicholson will always be the better joker in my heart. He was the joker we all grew up loving on TV. Ledgers joker was the joker from the comics. Very dark and mentally disturbed. Comparing them is apples to oranges.
Adam 380 Posted August 3, 2022 i realize they are different points of view on the character but IMHO Ledger set the bar
Chris 2,237 Posted August 4, 2022 Part of what made Nicholson’s portrayal so good is how out of character it was for the actor himself. And he seemed to embrace the insanity. It makes me wonder if he did it because it was so different a role for him and he thought it’d be fun? Ledger took the character to a dark place, bordering on creepy with his lizard-like lip smacking… definitely a different take, and equally brilliant. KarenK 384 Posted August 6, 2022 My heart will always belong to Nicholson. Although Ledgers portrayal was very good from an acting standpoint, I didn't really care for where he took the character. I didn't care much for his movie at all.
