    Brand Park Pool

i did see that as of 6/18 the Brand Park one was "closed for repairs" I guess if the City/County cannot repair/maintain something as simple as a splash pad, its all the more argument for NOT putting in a pool as well as the need for electing more competent leaders instead of career politicians

    Brand Park Pool

wonderful things, splash-pads.... no pool involved, so improbability of drowning no lifeguards needed. Kids still cool off ( less energy involved in maintaining splash pad so win for climate), kids can play together, money saved AND no more unsightly remnants of a pool Winning all around
  3. like picking some now and again and chewing it
  4. up front, yes, but they will attach the cost to any other property tax bills the owner might have. as long as he is current on his taxes seizure is moot
  5. apologies then, though my response is valid, it isnt a relevant to reply to THAT quote and for the record i agree with you on the clock tower
  6. As a Church, it was not subject to property taxes. Not everyone in Chemung County or Elmira practice one religion, so there are two reasons the taxpayers should not be burdened. Once it closed its doors in 2009 and was purchased in 2010 by Laurentiu Marian, a private Citizen, in 2010; it became that gentleman's "problem" to maintain and restore....or tear down if it so pleased him. But again, zero tax monies should be put into the building. From old photos and stories, Elmira was a beautiful place with many great examples of lovely architecture. While I would love nothing more than the opportunity to have witnessed it first hand; it IS the past. Just like in our personal lives; sometimes you have to hoe-out that which is no longer useful in order to move forward.
  7. put some beans in, they are nitrogen fixers
  8. you can take cuttings, or like i did, use a plastic container with potting soil, place it where there are 2-3 nodes along a green limb, moisten, then place cover and leave it for 2-3 weeks, it should root, and you can cut it at bottom of container and replant. youll need to put in some post & wire for the grapes to attach, pruning is beyond easy. the cutting i gave you is from Harold's root stock and thought they are seeded, are really sweet when ripe
  9. could be the couple were looking to exactly make a Federal case out of it to put the photog in their place. i guess if you want to refuse service for whatever reasons thats your choice, but at least be smart and instead of throwing your religious/cultural beliefs in someone's faces; simply say " im booked those dates"

  11. to the shelters that are still in the area and abide by the rules set in place
  12. may be a stretch but maybe "silence means consent" is an argument that is being made?
  13. they most certainly do, many times the victim is punished as much as if and when the bully is if things get physical. what could be better is for Administrators to no longer view schools as revenue generators. they have to have X amount of asses in seats for a set number of days in order to maintain their funding so all the little shitbirds get to keep on disrupting education with little to no consequences.
  14. 1. we ALL know that despite representing 30% of County population, the City sure as hell does not generate majority of the sales tax revenue. 2. hes trying to recruit the municipalities into the fight with the assumption the City will receive the lion-share of the benefit....well if hes that concerned about the outlying towns; then he wont mind if OUR shares are increased and the City's stays flat?
  15. on this one i have to say Mr Brinn is in the wrong...last few posts he has made regarding municipal issues have been half-truths at best. As a public representative one needs to be sure of FACTS before posting things; opining on subjects based on hunches or "misremembered" numbers does the public no good and really tanks credibility. further: We the taxpayers outside the City of Elmira have been paying for the City-boner that is the first arena for many years, i would say that argues against any more of OUR monies going into the city. perhaps instead of picking fights with County offices, maybe Mr. Brinn and the City Council should put better energy into finding ways that are not pie in the sky wastes of grant monies, to actually bring steady revenues into the City?
  16. of course not, sept 18th date leaves perfect amount of time for an October surprise
  17. when occurrences such as this happen in minority communities the automatic go-to is to blame the police. While this is not to excuse bad apples, perhaps the first though/reaction should be "how did things get to this point and why is no one learning from them?" instead of blaming the system, whites, men, police, phase of the moon; maybe look inward and see the breakdown of the nuclear family, the glorification of gang-life, rap, violence. While no demographic corners the market in these areas it does appear to be more popular amongst some(generally speaking). Perhaps cultivating self respect, community involvement, holding "community leaders" accountable for lack of improvements in said communities, less tolerance for ignorant behavior. this young person was out late, carrying a weapon that looks quite real, matched descriptions of suspects for robberies in that very area, RAN from police, brandished this weapon and struggled with them when caught. those choices were not impulsive; they were cultivated. you came here wanting open and honest discussion, well there you go
  18. when they started becoming suspects/participants in crimes? better question you might come up with is: When did it become ok/cool to be criminal element; why dont communities of color do a better job of policing their own? answer those and perhaps tragedies like this might end
  19. vehicles not changing lanes so you can merge onto the highway at a safe speed
  20. nope. not for: 1. the officer that had to make that hard decision 2. the young man who was obviously failed by his peers, community(or lack thereof), and a culture that seemingly glorifies getting into such situations.
  21. 1. because too many people are stuck in the "Vote Blue or Vote Red if you want change" never realizing the irony and futility of that very way of electing offices. 2. At least he went beyond social media and made an attempt.
  22. if our government was serious, theyd tell Bibi to kick rocks and pull ALL monetary/military support until the tune changes
