  1. Even opinion based articles can lead to discussion which, in my opinion, is becoming a lost art.
  2. Reading this I believe your daughter was a truly special person with a beautiful soul.

    The Nail

Beautiful Linda. I did finally find the courage to watch Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” and as terrifying and moving as the movie was I was left with the feeling it did not come close to the suffering He endured for us. I think only a very few humans in our history have understood, felt and shown that kind of pure love for others. I do not get emotional over movies but watching this movie broke my heart and I wept like a baby.
  4. Yes. 1973, driving home from Nichol’s Dept. Store at night. Younger sister was with me. Turned onto the road home off Draht Hill Road. Reached bottom of small knoll and noticed flashing lights in the sky to my left. Thought it was a helicopter, so stopped car, turned it off and got out to see what it was. Heard nothing but silence, colored lights flashing around oblong object that was just hovering above the field. Stood watching for several minutes then the object, in a flash, travels off in the direction of Watercuer Hill Road. Have never forgot seeing that object. Laugh if you want, I know what I saw and it wasn’t a helicopter or plane.
  5. When my boys started walking I always bought their first shoes at Panosian’s. White, ankle high laced shoes that were firm and supported them as they walked.
  6. It may seem like an extraordinarily long winter to you but I was reminded of the winters of my childhood. Snow started sometimes late October, definitely in November and lasted through end of March.
  7. I remember during high school in the early 70’s you say African American they referred to themselves as Black. I wonder how people will refer to themselves 100 years from now.
  8. This is unfortunate and I do feel sympathy for Mr. Reed and his family. Alcohol can cause as much destruction in a person’s life as drugs. I believe his apology is sincere and I respect him for owning his actions. I have a feeling he didn’t remember the incident until the woman spoke out. I noticed Mitrano was quick to fault Mr. Reed’s four years of recovery by pointing out how part of recovery is apologizing to those harmed but he waited until the woman came forward so he wasn’t sincere (paraphrasing). I would like to know the name of the man sitting next to her that she asked for help and why everyone present at that time kept quiet for four years. Why hasn’t anyone else present at that time spoken up about the incident? I still say the timing is just too convenient. I can’t help but wonder who he pissed off be it State level or in the House or Senate. What I find distasteful are the many comments on FB calling him scum because he was a collection attorney and nasty comments about what has happened. According to them, he is scum for representing creditors trying to get payment for services rendered but the individuals who didn’t pay for those services are the victims. I knew someone who worked at his firm and they worked with the people who genuinely fell on hard times financially with payment plans. It was those individuals who received insurance checks and kept the money instead of paying the provider, or defaulted on loans and the attitude was “try and get the money if you can”. The law allows remedy for creditors. I do not believe he needs to resign now as FB commentators are saying. He should finish his term. As for FB, it must be awesome to be such perfect human beings, never making mistakes, always living an exemplary life so you can judge and tear apart the rest of us mere mortals. Just my humble opinion.
  9. Timing is convenient. I truly don’t understand why people wait years before speaking out when something like this happens. Why did the individual she asked for help keep quiet? Human nature being what it is, people talk yet it’s five years before anything is said about this.
  10. I remember this as an almost 10 year old who lived on East Water Street at the time. I remember the fear that was pervasive throughout the neighborhoods and how we kids were not allowed to leave our own yards. I also remember how around that time someone was prowling around the homes in the neighborhood. We lived in a duplex that had a second story back porch where the bedrooms were located. One night Dad and the neighbor covered the porch with flour and the next day there were footprints on the porch by the windows. I’m not sure what happened after that but I remember the flour.

    The End Is Near

You might want to consider having them framed when they have provided you with your last wearing. It’s not easy letting go of treasures.
  12. Yes, and sometimes a horse isn’t just a horse. People can become complacent, not paying attention to what is happening around them and then surprise, the world you know is gone. I think we’ve learned enough this past year to be able to function responsibly so let’s see how easily, for example, our Governor willingly gives up his executive powers. Time will tell.
  13. Gov. Cuomo is allowing Weddings to take place beginning March 15th I think. Up to 150 guests allowed, dancing will be in a designated area and you must be masked. Allowing this and that that by this date at certain percentages. One could say it’s about getting people used to doing what they are told, when they are told, getting them used to following orders. Just a thought.

    Harry's Inn

You are a braver person than I am. As I’ve gotten older I have graduated to being able to tolerate a couple shakes of hot sauce on some of my food and mild pepper rings. 😀
  15. I always thought that was such a waste of needed resources.
  16. First word that comes to mind is “weird”. I did not understand the the “meaning” behind the song or performance. I would not pay to see them perform or watch again.
  17. His ego won’t let him resign. I believe he thinks he’s untouchable.
  18. She said nothing wrong and was unfairly terminated. Anyone who doesn’t believe history can repeat it’s self is a fool. Current political/entertainment/news commentator talking heads spouting talk about re-programming people for their political beliefs need to be called out and held accountable. This stinks of McCarthyism.
  19. It must be wonderful to be “all knowing”. Control is all important to Cuomo.
  20. I remember watching Walter Cronkite and locally Bruce Flaherty.
  21. That would require common sense which seems to greatly lacking in today’s society.
  22. The problem I see with legalizing marijuana is that, if passed, it will be legal but what happens if you work for an employer that requires you pass a random drug test to remain emloyed? You smoke before reporting to work Monday, have an accident at work, under the influence. Your employer can terminate you and potentially you are not eligible for Workman’s Comp. Also, if smoking cigarettes can lead to lung cancer, what is the difference with marijuana, you are still inhaling smoke into your lungs.
  23. Will have to check this out. A couple years ago I read a three book series titled “A Discovery of Witches”. a few Hubby is hooked 😉
