  1. Most if not all know of my solid dislike of Pudgies Pizza. However I do like their fish fries. Not to many places that you can feed multiple people on 1 fish fry. The first pic is before I dug the fish out of the pile of fries. You get 2 sides and 1 good sized piece of fish and then a smaller portion. Since I rolled solo on this dinner I went with the cole slaw and fries as my sides. Fish was cooked crispy but not over done. I am a fan of their cole slaw they definitely make it right. I also love the fact they include lemon wedges. Not to many places do that. This ran me 25.00 bucks and I do recommend going in around 5pm and order in person. They told me 5 minutes and I barely sat down and it was ready. All in all the whole process was probably 5 minutes. Generally I feed 3 people off their fish fries. This time it was all on me but I could not finish the fries. There was just so many. I believe they also offer a fish sandwich as well as broiled. This may be the only endorsement they get from me. Pudgies fish fry is most definitely Fat Guy Approved.
  2. Hello there! I decided I needed to do a quick little review to get myself back into the swing of things. I am currently working on another review so that one will be coming soon. So this is a place I visited a few months back and decided to be fair, I needed to give them a second shot. So before I get into my review I would like to remind everyone that these reviews are my opinion and nothing personal. Today's review is brought to you by BC's in Elmira Heights. As I previously said on a whim and empty stomach a few months ago I decided to stop in and give them a shot. BC's in the past was in my opinion the best in Elmira. So that's why I was even more disappointed with my meal. It could have been an off day and heck, maybe it was me. Sadly my second visit confirmed the first. The meat sauce has no flavor if not for the mustard and onions which I previously left off it would just have been bland meat. I thought to myself maybe its me and my taste buds but I reached out for a second opinion and they confirmed it no flavor. The hot dog itself was good and either they steamed the buns or it was just the heat and plastic container but it was better than a dry roll. They have a pretty decent sized menu and also offer breakfast. I have not tried any of the other food, so I can only say the hot dogs and meatsauce are not Fat Guy Approved. 3. Sorry for the delay but was a good excuse for me to have to go back and get a refresher. One thing the area is not short on is pizza shops, bars and fast food. So when I was told we had an authentic Jamaican place I was quite happy and knew it was gonna be my next review. Located on the corner of Davis and Noble Streets in Elmira is R&J Jamaican Cuisine. Small building but big plates of food. Starting with the first picture you have brown stew chicken. If you want chicken but think the jerk or curry chicken may be to spicy then this is for you. Meat was fall off the bone tender. A person of sophistication may describe the taste as almost floral. Though lacking in any sophistication, I agree and I think that is the best way to describe it. Very tasty and unfortunately did not last long. For sides I went with cabbage and white rice. Both were great and I'd be more than happy to just eat the rice and cabbage. Also at this time they did have fried plantains. Which, if you never had them, I highly recommend them. The next picture is the jerk chicken which I love. Again the chicken is cooked perfectly. Its nice and spicy not a long lasting burn or anything, but it does have a kick. I'm a big fan of jerk chicken so its hard to go there and try anything else. The next picture is a large order of the jerk chicken and rice and peas which apparently includes beans. I'm not complaining, it was well seasoned and again, almost floral in taste. I could eat this stuff everyday. Huge portion of chicken and the rice. I ate for two days. The last picture is the rasta pasta. Noodles in a cream sauce with fresh peppers and peas. They seem to sell out of this frequently it took me two stops to get to try it. Well worth the wait. Not spicey hot but strong pepper taste. I highly recommend trying it. Overall I have been well fed and happy on both my trips to R&J. My next trip I plan on trying a fish dish. The whole red snapper sounds interesting but I may have to work up to that. R&J Jamaican Cuisine you are Fat Guy Approved!!
  4. First let me say I get no kickbacks from any of the places I review. So when you see me promoting the same eateries its because I like their food. Here is some more delicious food courtesy of Julianna's Brickwood BBQ. The first picture is the smoked turkey melt with bacon. Good thick pieces of smoked turkey. Meat was tender, not dry at all. Can't say anything bad about bacon. This was also my first time trying sweet potato fries and honey. I don't regret it one bit they are delicious. This is a Thursday special I believe. Next time I am gonna add mayo because, well, turkey and mayo are meant for each other. Next picture is the buffalo chicken sandwich. I opted for bleu cheese and celery on the side. Their bleu cheese is pretty damn good. The easiest way to describe the taste is bbq chicken with wing sauce. Its a great combination I couldn't put it down, and didn't want to. I wish I would have bought two. For a side I went with regular fries. They are fresh cut and thats a plus because I am a fan of the fresh cut. Julianna's has yet to disappoint this Fat Guy. You can find out more about them here.
  5. Sorry for the long hiatus took on a new role at work and I was focused on that for a few months. I finally got the chance to try Campus Pizza/Pizza Pick Up. First and foremost I had to try the chicken wing pizza. Pizza Pick Up was always my favorite. This is the small size good for maybe 2 people perfect for 1 of me. Two for lunch and two for dinner, I got to savor the flavor all day. I liked the sauciness most places are a bit on the dry side. I like the smaller almost shredded chicken and it was real and not the frozen stuff. Which they did not skimp on. They also remembered my bleu cheese. That alone makes them rockstars in my book. Unfortunately they tend to be a bit greasy as you can see. Overall it was a delicious pizza no complaints on the price either at 7.99 it was well worth it. I'll definitely be going back for consistency checks LOL. So Campus Pizza your chicken wing pizza is "Fat Guy Approved". I also included the regular roni pizza mostly so you can see what it looks like. I only tried a slice so I dont think thats enough to give it a fair review. So enjoy the picture for now or try em put yourself.
  6. Rotund Man has been a little busy lately, but he'll be out there checking out the gastronomic delights again soon. In the meantime, enjoy this review from June 2020: I know seeing some of my recent food reviews and anyone that may have seen older reviews may think I got my fat guy stature by eating delicious fried foods and other gastronomic delights. While those are a minor contributor the real reason I can only see the tips of some toes when I look down is baked goods. So it is my absolute pleasure to finally review Desirae's Creations of Horseheads. I have sampled quite a few of her offerings and have not been disappointed. The only honest recommendation I can make is try everything because it's all delicious. The above picture is the Fathers day treat box. Sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter, and chocolate brownies as well as a "PB cup." The original box had bourbon balls but I keep my drinkin' and my baked goods seperate. Besides various pop up treat boxes she also offers a menu to order from ( see their Facebook page for more information ) and plenty of gluten free goodies in the shop as well. I will add that its nice to have a bakery in Horseheads again. Desirae's Creations is most definitely fat guy approved.
  7. Hello everyone your friendly neighborhood fat guy bringing you another review with questionable grammar and little or no punctuation. So besides having some of the best wings in the area they have a heifer of a cheeseburger sub. Aptly named The Big Harry it was definitely a mouthful. I get it dressed mayo lettuce cheese and bacon. Burger was cooked all the way no pink which is how I like em. Bacon was good and crispy.Nice hoagie roll soft with a bit of crust. Overall a well made and tasty sandwich. There is something about a cheeseburger sub that in my opinion makes it better than your standard on a bun cheeseburger. I like to keep my reviews honest so it was a little light on the fries for a charged upgrade. However that wouldnt stop me from ordering it again. Honestly they probably did me a favor. Meal in total was around 13.00 with fries the added bacon and being dressed. Well worth the price in my book and yes id still order it with fries. So Harry's Inn The Big Harry is Fat Guy approved and pretty funny to order.
  8. Down in The Valley, Waverly to be precise, there is a hidden little gem of store/bakery/pizza place/a whole lot of stuff. I discovered the Sopranos about 9 years ago while working and needing lunch. I challenge anyone to walk into this place and not buy something. Lunch time is always a magical time there. They have daily specials on top of a full hot and cold sub menu. At least 6 different types of pizza. They also sell fresh pasta and pasta take and bake dishes. I am also told they have great veal cutlets. Finally the bakery with fresh breads, cookies, brownies, pies, cupcakes and more. Finally onto my lunch. Country fried steak and gravy with a double helping of mac & cheese. At the time of the picture it was cooled down because I couldn't get to it right away. Even reheated this was delicious the gravy was nice and peppery the steak still nice and tender. The mac and cheese as always on point. I prefer the orange cheese over white. It was an internal struggle to not eat the whole thing. However I now have a delicious lunch tomorrow. Sopranos in Waverly you are Fat Guy approved!
  9. A while back I decided to venture away from my usual Friday fish fry location. I went with Oryans in Elmira Heights. On top of the fish fry we decided to try their garlic pizza. Starting with fish. I went with the standard mac & cheese and coleslaw sides. The portions were good, the fish was not over cooked. The slaw was a bit different than what I'm used to. Most slaw that I've had is on the sweeter side. The mac & cheese was pretty standard. I feel that the meal would have been better eating in rather than to go. Fish does not travel well in styrofoam it gets soggy. That part I dont hold against them. Now to the star of this review, the garlic pizza. It was absolutely delicious. Hands down best garlic pizza I've ever had. It was a bit thicker than your average pizza and it was almost like eating a soft garlic bread stick. It was a good sized pizza, I wanna say it cost 12.99ish. ( I believe it may have been a special that day so menu price may vary. ) They also have stuffed burgers which is on my fatdar. Overall it was a good meal with tip it was still a great price. They have plenty of daily specials so find them on Facebook and follow. The garlic pizza saved the night and O'Ryans is Fat Guy Approved.
  10. Harry's Inn 308 E. 14th St. Elmira Heights NY 14903 So this review is for those that like the hot stuff!! I think I have said before I do like to frequent the same spots so here is another Harrys review. After I recieved a huge settlement check from a robo calling company I decided to treat myself to some wings. I settled on the "Honey Garlic Thai Dirty Wings". While they pack a whole lot of flavor they also bring with them a butt load of hot. At one point between sweating and crying I wasn't sure if the temperature of the wings was burning my mouth or if it was the sauce. I gave up trying to figure it out after 6. The final 6 were saved for the next day. Being cold did nothing for the heat. I would definitely get them again only maybe with a side of fries. I also recommend them to any fan of hot wings. Harrys in Elmira Heights stays Fat Guy approved!!
  11. Let me start this review by saying I am ashamed of myself for waiting so long to give this place a try. You voted for it (mail-ins not accepted) and after a few months I am giving you my review of The Starlite Room. Right off the bat I knew I would like the place. They offer online ordering and in my opinion everyone should offer it. I can stare at the menu for hours customize my meal and I don't have to sound like a tool on the phone. So now down to business. My meal tonight was the philly cheese steak peppers and onions with a side of onion petals. So my first thoughts when opening the container was maybe I should have got two. Oh how WRONG I was. This thing was packed full and the roll was not split at the bottom. You would have thought Snoop Dogg rolled it. The roll itself was nice and soft the onion and pepper ratio was perfect. Everything was chopped up so no big chunks. I had to take the 1/2 eaten picture to show you how stuffed it was and then how much cheese. You knew you were eating a cheese steak. Also this slowmo just realized he didn't even put any condiments on it. I am usually a ketchup on my philly guy but I think it would have ruined the flavor. The onion petals were good the batter/coating was thicker which was good and I recommend the boom boom sauce for dipping. I am going to say at this point it was the best cheese steak I have had in a long time. If you made it this far I also had the pleasure of trying their mac & cheese. What you see was just a side order. I do not think there is another like it in the area. It has almost an afredo taste to it definitely unique and delicious. Finally I also got to try the Starlite burger it had a good char grilled flavor to it very good. The owner of said mac & cheese and burger said it was something they would order again. That compliment almost out weighs this Fat Guys approval of The Starlite Room.
  12. This review is definitely way out of my norm see I am not a big spaghetti guy. My pasta generally comes stuffed with cheese or meat. I am the type of guy who likes the dried out wedding reception rigatoni. So when a coworker offered up Wendys or $5.00 spaghetti lunch from The Sauce Boss. Yep you can guess by the pics where I went. So what you get is two pretty good size meatballs A very generous portion of spaghetti. Heres a first - I weighed it for sh!ts and giggles and it comes in at 1.8lbs. Sauce was good it was thick not runny and coated the noodles. No chunks of the devils dingleberry (tomatoes). The meatballs are good but interesting. The first time I ever had them they tasted like two completely different meatballs the difference being texture and sausage. Same thing this time around. Its not a bad thing they are both very good. This was my lunch and dinner on Wednesday for $5.00 you can't beat that. I also tried the cheese garlic bread. You basically get a large sub roll cut down into smaller slices. It was pretty tasty and even though it looks a little dark around the edges it was done perfect for my liking. I would go back just for this garlic bread. They also have a variety of other pasta dishes and subs. I recommend goving them a try. I know I will be going back to try some more. The Sauce Boss is ragazzo grasso approvato. Check them out on Facebook by clicking here.
  13. Here is my review of Cocino Del Gordo located in Jubilee plaza Horseheads. First let me tell you the place smelled amazing when I walked in. Turns out it was the Puerto Rican hot bar and the days meal. It Comes with beans and rice and your choice of 2 meats. I went with the pepper steak and the porkchop. The steak and peppers were very tender no need for a knife. Very flavorful and my favorite of the meal. The porkchop was in a delicious "bbq" sauce with peppers and onions. I ended up mixing all the extra sauce into the beans and rice it was so good. The beans and rice were on point I would have eaten just a container of them. At 10.99 it was a heavy container of food and my lunch and dinner. They threw in two of the fried plantains sprinkled with garlic. Ive never had them this way and I am now a fan unfortunately I only ate one and shared I need more for a proper review. Also pictured complimentary churros. I apologize they did have whip cream on them but it melted and its kind of a crappy picture. Never had them before kinda like a cinnamon doughnut. The meal was great definitely one of a kind in the area. Since writing this review I've been there three times. So Cocino Del Gordo you are Fat Guy approved. You can find them on Facebook or https://cocinadelgordo.com/
  14. A little ditty about chicken and Italian dressing... Two American favorites put together in a toasted bun. Add a little mayo lettuce and cheese put it in a container and serve it to me. If you haven't guessed it from my corny song what we have here is a chicken spiedie from On a Roll. This is one of my favorite subs always has been. Chicken was cooked right and good size sub. This was a large at around 10.00 which is well worth it. I would have liked a bit more Italian flavor in the chicken but that is easily remedied by asking for dressing on it. On a Roll is Fat Guy approved.
  15. Pictured above we have soft and hard shell beef tacos. Some rice on the plate and beans off to the side also Jarritos mexican soda. Not pictured is plain cheese nachos and steak quesadilla. The soda was good reminds me of Squirt soda. I was told the quesadilla was good and the shell itself was good enough to eat alone. There was a good portion of nachos and plenty of cheese not spicey of you're worried about that and not the fake orange cheese. Both styles of taco were great. I did prefer the hard shell though. I am also a fan of the texture and consistency of the beef. I am just a lettuce and cheese type of guy but they have the fowl tomato by request. My idea of rice is fried or white. I have now added whatever this rice was to that list. I like refried beans and some people don't. Face it they fail the eye appeal test but they add a nice texture to a taco. I found the best way to deal with them is just slop em in the taco with some hot sauce. Overall the food was delicious the prices and portions are good. Friendly service which is always important. They do move around so follow them on Facebook for their locations. My Eva is fat guy approved.
