Kevin 340 Posted August 4, 2022 Feel free to move this if it is the wrong place. I am looking for someplace to repair my old Cub Cadet snow blower. The last time it last year after about 200ft the muffler was cherry red. It seems to be running rich. I am not very knowledgeable about small engines. I checked online and 2 places came up 1 only works on Toro and the other has horrible reviews. Hoping for some suggestions.
Hal 341 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) Sounds like valves are your problem bud , what engine , Kohler , Tecumsah , Briggs ? Muffler turning red , exhaust valve stuck open or just not seating allowing fire from the spark stroke to escape prematurely losing power and overheating muffler . Only way to be sure is to know the engine , each has its own foibles . Tell me , how old , which engine and HP ? Edited August 5, 2022 by Hal

Kevin 340 Posted August 5, 2022 I sent you a DM, but Incase anyone else is curious. It seems to be a 30+ year old 8hp Tecumseh engine. A forum I was reading said something about running to rich could be the problem. It ran great the first 2 times I used it last winter. The 3rd time not so much. I didn't run the tank dry, but it was close.
