Teacher Under Fire For Cotton, Cuffs In Class On Slavery

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Rochester school officials are investigating allegations that a white teacher told his class of mostly Black students to pick seeds out of cotton and put on handcuffs during lessons on slavery in a seventh-grade social studies class.

“It made me feel bad to be a Black person,” student Jahmiere O’Neal told news outlets.

The teacher has been put on leave while the school system investigates the allegations. They came to light after an appalled parent posted on Facebook that her daughter was confronted with the cotton-picking lesson Tuesday.

“He made a mockery out of slavery,” the mother, Precious Tross, who also goes by Precious Morris, told news outlets later.

“I don’t have a problem with you teaching our kids about slavery and what our ancestors went through and how they had to pick cotton,” she said. “Our teachers back in the day told us that, but they don’t bring in cotton and make you pick cotton seeds out of cotton.”

Teach the damned standard curriculum! Everyone wants control of kids anymore from the geriatric empty eyed President to School Board Administrators to the teachers . It started with Liberal Left wing reachers cramming their ideals etc down out kids throats then parents complain to Boards of Education and are forced to leave the so called public hearing , now listen to our so called President on the subject of what is best for the Nations children ! 
Teachers our kids need Readin’ , Writin’ and Arithmatic from you ! Do your job then go home , do what you will with your own children but these kids your foisting your “ woke “ bullshit on are not yours , the School Boards nor the Presidents … they are ours until they are of an age to make up their own minds ! 
History is repeating itself starting with indoctrination of our kids through actions by some , not all teachers . So if you don’t mind , go home and pick your own damned cotton and indoctrinate  your own kids !

problem is, many districts are incorporating the "social justice" subjects into the curriculum. there in lies the problem, if you are required to teach uncomfortable subjects, society needs to learn to deal with that discomfort... besides, perhaps if kids learn a fraction of how bad past generations of all stripes had it; theyd appreciate their comfortable lives a bit more

Exactly, slavery was not confined to blacks , more often than not sold into slavery to white slavers from the New World but also sold / traded to other tribes , also black , so lets put this Back into the mix . Slavery has existed for millennia by all skin tones and by the way … not all of them picked cotton! 
lets have social justice for the Irish indentured servants , Jews that built temples and pyramids or the Serfs working the land of the Aristocracy ( which correlates with modern day America) . 
To quote an over used but not understood cliche , Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it ! 
As far as Black History, yes by all means teach it but let it be , as Fox News says , Fair and Balanced! 
Fair … is BLM being fair with using donations to buy huge mansions , balanced … how many young men died to help end slavery of black slaves in the civil war , is that taught as part of the curriculum now 🤔 don’t think so ! 
Bottom line is as we all know Black people are being held down and back by either their own actions or by the pandering of Democrats with their buying of the black vote . 
Racist of me , some may say yes . But the Truth has been slapping faces , black , white or freaking purple for far too long and this being mid term cycle it will only get worse . 
And thats the cotton pickin’ truth !! So teach it …

There has to be an element of common sense and it sounds like this teacher was severely deficient in that. By all means, have the cotton bolls there for the students to examine. Even the shackles, if historically accurate. But if some of these allegations are accurate, the teacher went over the line.
