Illegal Devices That Turn Semi-Automatic Pistols Into Miniature Machine Guns Being Found In Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- “Glock switches” are a national trend where criminals are turning machine guns into miniature machine guns. These modified guns can spray bullets extremely fast, more than 1,000 bullets a minute, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  

Criminals can empty magazines with the pull of a trigger, and it happens in just mere seconds. What normally requires someone to pull a trigger to fire one round, the “glock switch” will automatically fire with one pull.  

Now, “glock switches” are being found in the Twin Tiers. Investigators with the Elmira Police Department said they have started to see an up-tick of these modified handguns on the streets. 

Investigator Tristan Hillman, with EPD’s Detective Bureau, said it is bad enough when they encounter criminals with guns, but it is even worse when that criminal has a weapon that is modified to shoot fully automatic. He added that it creates a very dangerous situation for innocent bystanders, as well. 

“You’re taking those rounds and sending them out into the community, and you don’t know where they’re going to go,” he said. “If you’re trying to shoot at someone...like they do on the streets...and you’re not trained with a firearm, they could be going into people’s houses, or people’s cars, and obviously posing a threat to innocent people.”  

Investigator Hillman said “glock switches” are easy to install and require little to no gunsmithing knowledge.

I’m not so sure it was a wise idea to have aired a tutorial on how this works or how to install one in a Glock . Then to demonstrate the firing power this brings to the handgun as the Glock will now become very desirable to the criminal element .
