there are plenty of videos and verified stories of Israeli "settlers" assualting and displacing palestinian land owners, their crops being raided and then destroyed all while IDF or police look on and do nothing, or children being detained for years on little more than "because we say-so" as well as IDF provoking and intimidating women/children just because they can, long before 10/7. there MUST be a distinction between civilian and combatants and realizing this is difficult at best concerning the tactics of hamas cowards; carpet bombing areas that you tell folks are safe, or shooting people surrendering( even the hostages they are supposedly doing this for) are certainly not actions conducive to de-escalating or being rid of radicalization. i do not excuse nor condone the actions of 10/7 nor ANY other barbarism. im simply tired of hearing Israel use past wrongs of others as justification for theirs that are ongoing and claiming/being given the moral high ground for what would be considered crimes against humanity if many other Nations were doing the same

one argument is that Yes, there IS a need for housing in almost any area of the country; the real concern is what kind of housing? these residents are likely envisioning another Dewitsburg/Hathorn court/Jones Court development...and can anyone really blame them? Elmira is not exactly the vision of middle-class white picket fencing and frankly any deals the City has entered into these last 20+ years would make the Village Idiot wince. As to property values i have to agree with the concern; these pie in the sky projects are funded, generally, by taxes, paid for by property owners. Now, many of these housing projects are owned/operated by either the municipality or some developer getting a huge tax incentive/write-off/grant money pay-out and therefore generate little if any tax revenues. the occupants of these buildings, by design or piss-luck, are not the most productive of citizens, nor do a certain number really care for appearances of the property( his last paragraph is telling in which population these developments are geared towards) in a few years when the incentives have expired, the managing group will move on their responsibility and interest to the area evaporated; do you think the surrounding properties will be given tax breaks or fair market value offered when they cannot sell? Mr Brinn is correct, he has a duty to ALL the people in his district. property owners, specifically responsible ones, are what can anchor a neighborhood and to the Rev's point: looking years beyond the next election cycle means recognizing that a multi-unit rental development, particularly geared towards homeless/recovery/etc is not a way to draw people into an area, at least not those with the means to rehab the large numbers of properties so desperately in need of it. End of the Day, he must take off the Reverend cap and look beyond the "instant gratification" of housing those in recovery and legislate wisely in order to recover the housing issue this area faces.

He was adamant that he was against the pay increase in earlier communications so given the reputation he has had in the community for years, im curious as to what kind of pressure was placed behind closed doors to get that flip. it seems awful convenient as well that audio/video were not working for this meeting as well.

interesting videos of Israeli "settlers" raiding Palestinian olive groves, with IDF/Police standing by(guard) then once the crops are gone, destroying the trees. other stories, documented independently, of palestinians that have owned land for generations being barred from accessing it by IDF/police due to the war activity, yet "settlers" are given free access. in the old city, right-wing jewish groups are in the streets celebrating holidays, they also have paraded through arab neighborhoods while arabs are not allowed to to to the grand mosque or are ordered to close their businesses due to war related claims or to make sure those parades are marched without issue. this along with palestinians being told to go south for safety from fighting, now either being bombed, or herded into overcrowded and unsanitary areas for their "safety" kind of points to Israel of maybe having aspirations of gaining real estate more than eliminating hamas and what they are doing to palestinians now is awfully reminiscent of Poland 1938.

I think in this instance, id have to think it was Israel that initiated. they've been saying all along that they would continue operations. relative "peace" for too long and any excuse to continue military action would likely find much less support. with hostages still in hama's possession Israel maintains cover.

Not sure if right topic to post this but: A genuine thanks to Legislator Morse for engaging on this site, there are 2-3 others i have had good interactions with, but it would be nice to have more of them, as well as the management team, using this site to engage various people seeing how it is much more drama free rather than the book

i guess, in light of that info, being that there are two members of the Legislature on the Board, as well as Mr. Roman and Ms. Burlew( both Supervisors of municipalities i believe), where is the accountability to tax payers that do ultimately fund this entity? it appears to many of us that the IDA operates as if answerable to no one but themselves and given the situations with the last two tenants of that building accountability and even replacement of members is long overdue

2% is the maximum increase without having to go to voters so often many who either do not attend meetings or at least read the minutes wouldnt necessarily notice it...of course you could just do like some and claim no increases over last 4 years; you'd be surprised how many don't question it
