Chemung County Politics Open Chat
Adam replied to Twin Tiers Living's topic in Chemung County Politics
except the Exec/deputy got 15.3% and 21.1% increases last year respectively, and given that 33 governors make less than moss, and close to 30 make less than his deputy, and bigger counties pay their execs less( monroe comes to mind) combined with decreased revenues, the ridiculous amounts of monies bled into the arena AND an increase in our property taxes Mr. Moss is WAY out of line. and 7% of his previous raise was approved by the Legislature, so him winging about how THEY got 3% last year is just plain bullshit no matter how you cut it. -
all the idiots out there cheering and supporting this move had better stay silent then, when in 4 years trump starts passing out pardons. theyve had their chance to call out wrong despite political ideology

he got a 15% increase for 2023 so tired of hearing we need to have good wages to attract elected officials...how about a sense of doing one's civic duty for a SHORT period of time, then moving on for new people/ideas to move forward? ELected positions were never intended to be a life-long, full time endeavor. Moss has been such a disappointment since getting in office. i had heard from some that worked under him regarding his "my way or highway" monarchy mind-set when he first ran but figured it was chalked up to malcontents....i guess i was wrong we can only hope that the LEgislature votes to override his veto and not use the veto to say "well we tried, and to pass a timely budget well just HAVE to accept the pay raises" kind of like the pigs in farmer Jones' house...they had to eat the apples and drink the milk despite their dislike of it, for the good of the other animals on the farm ya know? -
SCOTUS Weighs Gender Affirming Care For Minors

well keep in mind these are likely the same experts that say/said 2 years was enough data to say covid vaccines were safe...of course millions of us are currently subjects of trials to see what if any longterm effect might be -

1. "well Trump did/will do it" is a bullshit refrain thats been heard all too much lately, and even stating its been done in the past is sad. Its the principle of the matter; take away the tax issue, there was gun crimes involved, and disposing of it in a public trash bin showed a flagrant disregard for the safety of others, bit hypocritical to harp on about gun safety/laws, and then use kid gloves when it suits you. 2. Biden said MANY times, he would not use the Executive power of the Pardon for his son, then turns around and does the exact opposite, again PRINCIPLES. that we the People seem to have been letting DC denizens slide on for far too long, and we end up with what our so called representation looks like

Chemung County Proposes $319 Million Budget For 2025
Adam replied to Twin Tiers Living's topic in Local News
Likely because in the financials posted on WETM tonight, Arena operated at a loss of almost 500k so far, plus the 600k in repairs to the building we've spent, AND they/he/whoever filed the report is asking for more money to cover their bank account( paraphrasing) and there is some need, at least for appearance sake, to keep the good graces of the taxpayer last two shows ended up losing 35k... -
how can one be pardoned for crimes not proven??? Only in DC i guess its funny( pathetically) to see so many people agreeing with his actions; Son or not, it was a moment to show some sort of principle that the Elected class has been sorely missing these few decades

What Trump's Second Term Could Mean For New York Schools
Adam replied to Twin Tiers Living's topic in State & Regional News
cannot disagree here, if they are not in some sort of summer educational program, then meals should not be provided, fold that "savings" into the children that DO attend summer programs. as to school meals; i say just make breakfast and lunch free for all students, and while at it, quit contracting out to lowest bidder, ive seen reports on what other countries feed their students, and surprise surprise; not only better quality, but they seem to have less rates of obesity and attention disorders. and here we see political self preservation first-hand charters can outperform publics yet "public education community" read UNIONS, are opposed, and of course since Dems lean heavy on Unions for votes NYS has a limit on number of charters that can operate. im really thinking Trump has it backwards, do away with 50 individual departments of Education, revamp the Law to allow the Fed to set the curriculum ( to concentrate on math, science, reading and life skills)...folks( largely Democrat) are so quick to want to follow the European model for healthcare...why not do so for education? -
What Trump's Second Term Could Mean For New York Schools

ranked 20th out of 81 Nations, while not bad isnt really that great either.https://www.abqjournal.com/clickable/does-the-american-education-system-really-lag-behind-other-countries/collection_a0e93cba-3f09-5034-aa8e-74283d58ef48.html#1 interesting; in skimming the article it notes that some countries that scored higher than US, had more centralized "DOE", for America, is it that our DOE is just THAT inept or does it have to do with competing interests with each State's own DOE? because looking at this https://www.usnews.com/news/special-reports/a-guide-to-common-core/articles/2014/03/04/common-core-myths-and-facts#:~:text=The 1965 Elementary and Secondary, end of each grade level. from 2014 says that "The 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act forbids the Federal government from intervening in school curriculum development. States independently adopted the Common Core, a set of math and English Language Arts standards for K-12 students to reach by the end of each grade level." and given that recent stories/studies are showing common core at minimum did no good and at worst possible harmed students' education, it seems 1. States that raced to implement it did so it seems, in light of 4 billion in funding from "Race to the Top" initiatives to bring in funding instead of actually improving education standards. 2. if the Fed cannot intervene in developing school curricula, why bother having it? seems awful redundant and wasteful. -

The Big Guy dont care, i think this is his way of leaving a nice steaming pile for after Jan 20th 2025 and to further complicate things for the incoming administration

i do honestly believe that Russia is in serious need of being tossed back out of crimea and taken to task over its aggression and possible war crimes. i also believe that the US cannot, and should not be the go-to when military response is considered, its gotten the Nation to the point where everyone hates us but loves our money(possibly as a means of weakening over the long game). EU/Nato Nations have close to, if not over, 1 million active duty soldiers; perhaps THEY should be front line intervention this time around

Trans Woman Sues Hooters In Upstate NY For Discrimination
Adam replied to Twin Tiers Living's topic in State & Regional News
Exhibit "A".. your proto-typical Hooters waitress; nice picket fence. Exhibit "B"...frequent customer and three-peat applicant; Mud fence. Which one has most curb appeal your Honor? Its got nothing to do with you owning a dick(past or present) the company has an image and brand to maintain...I rest my case -
apparently this morning's bridge fire seems to be a similar situation the clemens center bridge affair. there is/was a camp near the corner of clemens and Washington, it was recently rousted

Ithaca Common Council Passed Black Ithacans 8-3 Reparations Study
Adam replied to Pvt Snowball's topic in Twin Tiers News
cannot find one good reason to support the idea, let alone dropping 50K on a "study" when members already see it as a foregone conclusion; id be curious as to who they have in mind to get THAT particular payout. as soon as you can point to any enslaved people after 1863( Emancipation), or ill even go so far as to say late 1865. short of that, anyone who MIGHT be entitled to reparations would be those born during Jim Crow Era, so at the outside no one born AFTER 1960-62. Yall want to go after private companies/institutions that you can prove benefited from history of slavery, have at it, but to expect taxpayers to foot the bill when majority have ZERO culpability is just plain crazy and besides: at what point, or perhaps more honestly price, do you feel its appropriate to stop blaming tragedy from 150 years ago for current issues in your community? -
or you( general sense) work as much/long as possible, or for-go things like internet, smoking/drinking/whatever, to make sure YOUR child has what they need. Your kid is only poor if you fail in your responsibilities as a parent. ideally the way to fix that is for everyone of us to quit electing people based upon which "team" or color they play for and get folks in office that will actually ensure people over profit is the way business and governance is done.
