hat attached to St Joseph's which is a 48 bed dormitory for men only.

ive posted links to your claim before, it certainly is NOT only for men, and the County foots the bill for families to be put up in local motels as well( links also previously provided)

Sure, makes perfect sense to me.  Lets retaliate against being kicked out by starting a huge fire and burning everyone else out too.  The only ones they hurt were themselves.

it was from a person who chooses to be homeless that these folks know

as to making sense or hurting themselves; remember, many of them choose that lifestyle and aren't known to really give two hoots about laws or logic

what fire? I seem to have missed  something.

back in beginning of July the north side of the bridge had a fire beneath it. there was great speculation as to its cause. We had recently spoken to someone who has an unfortunate friend that is homeless locally. the fire was indeed started by the bridge dwellers in retaliation for being fenced out

But the City will pay a considerable amount to demolish it.

up front, yes, but they will attach the cost to any other property tax bills the owner might have. as long as he is current on his taxes seizure is moot

If the City had acted 10-15 years ago, the cost wold have been much less.

As a Church, it was not subject to property taxes. Not everyone in Chemung County or Elmira practice one religion, so there are two reasons the taxpayers should not be burdened.

Once it closed its doors in 2009 and was purchased in 2010 by Laurentiu Marian, a private Citizen, in 2010; it became that gentleman's "problem" to maintain and restore....or tear down if it so pleased him. But again, zero tax monies should be put into the building.

From old photos and stories, Elmira was a beautiful place with many great examples of lovely architecture. While I would love nothing more than the opportunity to have witnessed it first hand; it IS the past. Just like in our personal lives; sometimes you have to hoe-out that which is no longer useful in order to move forward.

with the one I have planted

you can take cuttings, or like i did, use a plastic container with potting soil, place it where there are 2-3 nodes along a green limb, moisten, then place cover and leave it for 2-3 weeks, it should root, and you can cut it at bottom of container and replant.

youll need to put in some post & wire for the grapes to attach, pruning is beyond easy. the cutting i gave you is from Harold's root stock and thought they are seeded, are really sweet when ripe

  8. 1. we ALL know that despite representing 30% of County population, the City sure as hell does not generate majority of the sales tax revenue.

    2. hes trying to recruit the municipalities into the fight with the assumption the City will receive the lion-share of the benefit....well if hes that concerned about the outlying towns; then he wont mind if OUR shares are increased and the City's stays flat?

  9. on this one i have to say Mr Brinn is in the wrong...last few posts he has made regarding municipal issues have been half-truths at best. As a public representative one needs to be sure of FACTS before posting things; opining on subjects based on hunches or "misremembered" numbers does the public no good and really tanks credibility.

further: We the taxpayers outside the City of Elmira have been paying for the City-boner that is the first arena for many years, i would say that argues against any more of OUR monies going into the city. perhaps instead of picking fights with County offices, maybe Mr. Brinn and the City Council should put better energy into finding ways that are not pie in the sky wastes of grant monies, to actually bring steady revenues into the City?

And nobody really voted for colwell let's be honest

    1. because too many people are stuck in the "Vote Blue or Vote Red if you want change" never realizing the irony and futility of that very way of electing offices.

    2. At least he went beyond social media and made an attempt.

There is so much neglect in the town of Southport as I stated previously

not much any County Legislator can do.

you and as many neighbors you can muster, need to show up to meetings, with facts and numbers, and put those you all feel are in need of replacement on record for their positions. Once you have this, you can also choose candidates to replace them, and work hard at it, do not take one vote for granted. may not happen first election cycle, learn from it and plan for the following
