  1. Would that be the DeSantis/Newsom thing last night? I heard about it and thought it odd because I didn't think Newsom was running.
  2. I had no idea he was even still alive. My bad.
  3. Isn't there a sticker store right there now?
  4. Nope. I think lawsuits just waiting for the statute of limitations to almost expire, are in the works.
  5. Seems like there is always a pay raise in the budget. I want to know how they will implement the new term limits after the first of the year. That was a landslide in favor.
  6. I guess someone has to be first.
  7. Looks like the exact same type of press release that came from "developers" for the Arnot Mall some years ago. That went nowhere.
  8. Not sure if you all saw this article. Seems to have been pushed to the bottom of the news very quickly. This is the fella that called them in. Local hunter speaks about hearing bombs in the Town of Veteran (mytwintiers.com)
  9. And not one peep about it from anyone in Erin or Breesport that I'm aware of. I did see people posting about the Horseheads explosions. We are so used to the Tannerite they blow up around here that no one even pays attention anymore. That in itself is concerning.
  10. So, coincidentally, I had an appointment on the Southside this evening and by the time I left it was pitch dark. It's not the lack of light, it's too much. The overhead lights present a ridiculous glare. I could not wait to hit the highway where I could see. All those folks asking for more lights are nuts. The folks with those really bright whatever they are lights? Ridiculous. Had one behind me on E Franklin who kept the high beams on all the time, even with cars coming the other way (asshat). I flipped my mirror but my interior was still lit up like daylight making it very hard to see.
  11. Its both I'm sure but I seem to have the worst luck on Clemens with pedestrians. I have had bikes blow right through intersections with out slowing down. People walk into the intersection right as their light turns yellow but they keep right on walking. If you are coming up to a light and it's green you are not necessarily going to be searching for a pedestrian lollygagging across the intersection from the opposite side. At night they are hard to see anyway.
  12. No, definitely Sears. Bon Ton was where Izards was. Then they moved up to center court area and then closed. Then Macys came in there. The Macy's section is used regularly for events. Sears was being used as a storage rental place.. There are around 80 places operating there. There are 5 new places that just opened in the mall and 2 coming soon. There is Pickleball on one end and Planet Fitness on the other. Personally I thought it would make sense to move all the open stores to one end or the other to make it more centralized and then figure out how to use the rest of it. I think if people didn't have to walk a mile between storefronts it would make more sense. Basically use the part where the original mall was before they built on past center court.
  13. Wasn't Sear the one location that was actually owned? I think Sears owned it and last I knew they were renting space in there for storage - boats, RVs and such in winter.
  14. O.M.G I can't believe I missed Comic Con.
  15. IDK. My guess is they are all negotiated on a case-by-case basis but Dave did say it was a major complaint they had being maintenance issues. I suppose where the issue was originating might play into it. No matter, the mall apparently can't get out of its own way even with this management and leasing company that's supposed to be famous for reinventing mall space.
  16. Another reason for the Mooney relocation was maintenance. They had a lot of issues with plumbing, heating, and electrical and although I believe the mall was responsible, they could not get things fixed. I know some plumbers that they called to fix things and they paid for it themselves. That cost them time and money. I think they felt it made more sense to just buy their own place and quit paying double (out of pocket and in their rent) for repairs and maintenance. I kind of wonder if they (the mall) pay their contractors on time. Dave got more than one late night calls or weekend calls from their management company because they couldn't get anyone to come out. They don't generally go out and do work for management companies like that, and he didn't. They must have just been calling anyone they could find. You would think they had contractors of their own for basic maintenance when they need it.
  17. I do think people are still visiting the anchor stores. The two that are left anyway. I went in Penny's to return an item I got online last Sunday (wasn't available in store) and the lines at the registers were 6-7 deep. People are going to the stores they want by their outside entrances and not entering the mall.
  18. The old Macy's is currently being utilized as an event space. There were several "community gardens" started over the years. I know there was on in Elmira. There was one up here in Erin where I live. Interest in them lasted 2 or 3 years.
  19. Well, it's privately owned, not county owned, so I guess that would be up to the owners.
  20. CCIDA wants a truck stop hub in that area in the worst way.
  21. Yes, they lose a tenant so increase the rents on the others to make up the difference. Not super smart. They also are bringing in new tenants and allowing their rent to be a portion/percentage of their total sales. That offer did not get extended to current tenants. They also do not make the the new tenants all stay open specific hours but the older places have mandatory mall hours. Management needs to be upgraded there I think.
  22. It is replacing the mall. The lease with the mall runs out next Sept so they want to be open and operational by August at the latest.
