  1. I agree to let the arena die and hopefully put something that will be used by more than 5% of the population. I also think the should invest some money into Dunn Field. I like Dunn Field and would like to see more use out of it. Maybe a concert or exhibition games.

I am just curious when it gets torn down how much of the bill will the county stick the city with? I know they stuck the city with a large portion of the construction bill.
  3. "35% for Investments in Water, Sewer and Broadband Infrastructure" It seems when anything is asked of the water board we hear they are a separate entity and are independent of the city. Must be things have changed when money is to be given out.

I wasn't defending it, I was just pointing out the time-line.

I am not sure when the pictures of the offices were taken, but I know they said Hunt did the inspection in May. So it was still occupied.

I thought they had a couple buyers, but they wanted to maintain control of it after the sale so the buyers dropped out. I may be mistaken.

My 1 main question is how does a metal roof deteriorate so bad in 21 years that it needs replacing? Metal roofs are supposed to last longer than asphalt roofs and they last 20, 30+ years. A commercial metal roof should last a lot longer than that. I am sure they will try to blame Robbie Nichols for it. But that is a landlord (The IDA) issue that should have been dealt with a long time ago.

I guess they should have sold it while they had the chance. https://www.mytwintiers.com/sports/elmira-enforcers/chemung-county-ida-considering-demolition-of-first-arena-amid-repair-cost-concerns/amp/
  9. I think what some of the issue is most people don't remember how bad He-man and GI Joe actually were. They were just ling commercials to sell new toys. So many people want to think they were so good. Me, I am one of those people. I will watch the other 4 episodes tomorrow and see how it pans out. His comments remind me of the female Ghostbuster movie. People hated it because they were misogynist and not that the movie sucked.

  11. I had to go to work and didn't get to episode 2. Guess I should've waited to post my review. I was just happy it wasn't a 30 minute infomercial for a new toy.
  12. Just finished the first episode! 2 thumbs way up! I agree some of the voices threw me off, but I will definitely keep watching it.
  13. Living in the city I don't worry to much about extended power outages. I do have a 2nd battery for my cell phone to play music so I can sleep. I also have a small wood stove in the garage that could be brought into the house with the chimney out the window as emergency heat if needed. I have a grill to cook on if needed. Other than that I would be out of work until power and internet was restored.

Last I knew they said the issues were not going to reimbursed. Now off of a sudden they have multiple organizations interested in the arena? A few years ago they couldn't find anyone to take it. If they do have multiple organizations interested it makes me wonder if that is the reason they didn't meet to extend the last agreement.

If the sound issues I heard about exist it should just take some well placed insulation to correct it. Something a sound engineer could tell them where it needs to be fixed. As for sports if it could do more than 1 sport and appeal to a greater audience I am sure it could at least break even. One major cost for a hockey arena is the ice plant, which last I knew was old and outdated. If I remember right the newer ice plants they could buy are not compatible with the plumbing under the concrete that keeps everything frozen, so it would require demolition and a completely new setup for a new ice plant and that cost was well over 200k if I am remembering right.

I have always heard the arena has a tinny sound to it when concerts are there. I have never been to a concert there, so I don't know. I just remember hearing someone say that.

From what I read it seems to be the IDA causing the issues. Robbie Nichols is saying he has been trying to set up a meeting for a couple years and the IDA keeps blowing him off. I do agree the county does need to get rid of it and get it back on the tax rolls. The issue is they want to sell it, while maintain all control of what happens to it. If I owned it, hockey would be a thing of the past. Take down the boards and turf the surface, then it can be used all year long for soccer, lacrosse. Make some modifications to the seating and then you can also do arena football.
  18. Well, it is called Masters of the Universe and not He Man and the Masters of the Universe like it was in the 80s.
  19. Rumors are circulating saying most of the promo is misdirection for who the real hero is gonna be. https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/heman-reportedly-main-character-masters-universe-revelation/amp/
  20. Everyone I have been in the books have been in the front of the store to the right of the doors.
  21. I am also happy to see them coming. Usually the books and rugs are the only things of quality, but sometimes you find something else hidden on a shelf somewhere. I never even bother with the food or snacks.
  22. What I like about Ollie's is the selection of discount books. All the one's I have been to have a large selection and I always find a new book.
  23. My bride and I just left there! What a place, they took the former Newberry's dept store and made it into a antique store. It is broken down into sections and a different person rents each section. The best part is you only pay at one location for everything instead of paying at each booth. They have almost everything you need and tons of stuff you don't need, but want. We got out of there relatively easy on the wallet. Since each section is owned by a different person some prices are reasonable, some seemed high. My wife found a mug that she liked for $6 in one location and then she saw the exact same mug in a different location for $18. Plan on spending a number of hours there because it is 2 floors of stuff. They have something for everyone. https://www.earlyowego.com/
