  1. Did you give them a Poodle Cut ?! 😆

I REALLY need to get off this current project and get out to the orchard to prune those apple trees before it warms up . Maybe tomorrow i can sneak out there !

id Kathy Shea Mormino, a home chicken blogger and author who has about 50 of the birds at her Suffield, Connecticut, home.

About 50 birds … lol , hold my beer ! At one time there were as many as three times that many here ,counting meat birds ,on the compound ! In the rush to have a backyard flock people should really think before doing so should first figure out just how many or how birds they actually need . I mean , it can be a fun endeavor but it can also turn sour in one hell of a hurry ! I would gladly go back to it again but for the feed costs …

  3. Yep , right up to the point when they find out raising and caring for , feeding , cleaning , waterers , feeders . Not to mention if they get sick ! There are a few of us well versed on the subject that can tell you it Ain’t for everyone…

  4. I used to think the whole Avian Influenza thing was just a problem for commercial producers but with the Snow geese I too am starting to worry about the backyard flocks . As to how to slow this thing down, it going to take locking down the flock altogether and not letting anyone else in your chicken yard . I watched a program a while ago where a food processor installed a showering device on the entrance to the plant , not to shower the employees but just before they were to pass through it so their boots were rinsed with a solution of some sort . On a much smaller scale I think rinsing one’s boots before entering the chicken coop or yard is at least a start or attempt at stopping this from hitting your flock . I mean , what is the cost of a plastic tray and some bleach ( at the least ) as compared to losing your whole flock ?!

@Hal and I each bought cedar raised beds from Home Depot. And while they looked nice, I think for the money, they weren't worth it.

No , they definitely do not live up to the advertising hype . Although nice to look at over the first season of use they pretty much go to the Meh side after that , even with proper sealing etc they don’t justify the cost even using Veteran discount .
If I decide to put in another bed it will be out back of the barn , that said , yes we have a few deer that like to visit the big garden but this last year I discovered another deterrent for them . If you have any type of extra fencing lying  around ( doesn’t every gardener ? ) this can be put to use around smaller areas , like raised bed etc . Simply lay the fencing flat on the ground a bit out from the area or if its Poultry Fence a little crumpling to make it … wavy kinda . Same with rectangular spaced fence , deer are naturally hesitant of stepping on uneven or unnatural surfaces . Yeah it could be a pain to take up when mowing but a couple minutes of moving it is worth it !
Another nighttime  deterrent is ( if you play a musical instrument) record yourself playing and singing 🎵 , Caution ️ … volume down on this one unless you don’t like your neighbors LOL !

I agree with the squirrel analogy...Let's throw so many executive orders that people don't have enough time to challenge all of them...so a few get through without a word..I don't think it will work.  I think we'll have 4 years of court and no changes actually happen, but he's going to see how many people he can deport before the court orders take over...Maybe we'll be lucky and he'll want to use closed state prisons to house them...and the Southport prison that closed and is empty will create some jobs locally.

Absolutely… bring more illegals here to “house “ them in  an empty Prison on Our Dime . Arrest them , feed and house them , all with the intent to create jobs locally . Really ?!

IMO , sending Federal dollars Directly to States after a disaster would be the biggest mistake ! By the time those funds filtered down through all the Sticking Fingers and Greedy Pockets at the State Level or Clock Tower Repairs it would mean pennies on the dollar left over for those actually in need .

  8. What , no charge for the “ extended ammunition feeding devices “ ? Geezus why not just say illegal magazine , a lot of us have Mag extenders but just for “ grip “ purposes not to increase the amount of ammunition. Seems to be a Meth’d up problem in VanEtten lately but not to worry… coming ( or already there ) soon to a town near you .

  9. Picked up an 18 pack from the cooler at Weiss a bit ago … without checking the price . Got to self check out , close to ten dollars for those Clucking things !! Guess where they stayed …

  10. I’ll take my pollinator bed expansions a little slower this year , maybe by hiring some “inside “ help to break ground for the new then using the drags to break up the sod from the soil over a period of time as it dries . In the meantime I have planted some specimens, Bee Balm and Butterfly Bush and an Elderberry plus perennial Sweet Pea on the existing fence sections .
Wife and myself spend most of our time on the “ back - back “ ( porch on the back of the barn overlooking the field ) so it just makes sense to expand on what we enjoyed so much last year .
But with baby steps and a bit more planning for increased visual interest . Not that the current planting wasn’t interesting just needs some tweaking .
laughing point is , I got certified 50 years ago for this very thing and just now taking it seriously… and having fun with it ! Thanks Chris LOL !

  11. So , can I assume all the involved “ Agencies “ are Not funded by County Taxpayers ?! And is it not a conflict of interest for the same individuals to sit on these seemingly Separate Entities  ? And just how many more of these acronymic shills do these folks have tucked away to use as needed ?
Thank you for the deep dive Adam !

Driving down Clemens Center Parkway I saw that the mess there that begins at Clemens and Washington going south is getting cleaned up. They had a bucket loader in there hauling out the trash and whatever else.

That encampment along the dike just south of Water Street is getting to be quite a little city from the looks of things.

It has grown substantially! Which I believe will , or has already, caused problems with folks that use the Trail . Guess my question is this . Since the Expressway is a State hwy Rt14 ( correct if mistaken pls ) was it the State or City that was cleaning up after them … again ? Or since the homeless subdivision was on the other side of the fence was it the City’s responsibility ? The devil is in the details …
