Twin Tiers Living 492 Posted June 19 On Tuesday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that in just 3 weeks, more than 100 illicit storefronts across the state were shut down by the New York State Cannabis Enforcement Task Force. The State’s commitment to shutting down these unlicensed cannabis storefronts has directly contributed to a 27 percent increase in legal cannabis sales in areas impacted by the Task Force’s enforcement activities. “We are committed to building the strongest, most equitable cannabis market in the nation,” Governor Hochul said. “In order to advance that goal, we promised to expedite the closure of unlicensed cannabis storefronts, and I’m here today to say: we’re getting it done.” The State’s commitment to shutting down these unlicensed cannabis storefronts has had a direct impact on the legal cannabis industry. Since May 21, when the Task Force was launched, 114 illegal cannabis stores have been padlocked. In addition, the OCM reports that $29,306,247 worth of illegal substances was seized from these stores and legal cannabis sales are up 27 percent since May for stores close to the padlocked locations. MsKreed 1,573 Posted October 15 The Chemung County Legislature will vote tonight (stream at 7pm or watch it later at THIS LINK) on a resolution to shut down "sticker shops" that illegally deal marijuana: Full text of the resolution is available HERE

But the wording is not clear about when it will take effect. The language says something about a public hearing within 20 days. It doesn't exactly specify whether it could be overridden at that point. I assume it will go into effect, but it is a bit confusing because it doesn't seem like there should be any argument not to have a law that prohibits illegal behavior. Not that there are many that are left in Elmira but the one big one 420 novelties have self classified as a private club. Which must be working for him as I got a random message from a shop in Corning inviting me to like their new "private club".
MsKreed 1,573 Posted October 16 I don’t think private clubs have ever been legally allowed sell/serve any regulated product without proper licensing. Just like SLA has different license provisions for sealed bottles/cans sales vs on-premise consumption.....I’m pretty sure they still need to issue a specific license for a private club to serve alcohol vs a bar or liquor store, etc. Perhaps someone here who’s affiliated with a private club that serves liquor can provide details. But I’d have to suspect that the private club approach is no more rational as a loophole than the “gifting” scheme.

Our club has to follow all NYS laws for anything we sell.

MsKreed 1,573 Posted October 16 I don’t get the point of a public hearing after it’s been voted on and passed. Especially when Moss is clearly stating that he intends to sign it afterward. Normally, those happen before legislation is voted on....to get an understanding of the public’s sentiment on the issue and then proceed accordingly.

There is one that is supposed to be opening on Water Street and the guy who has that license already has another shop in Binghamton. Then there is the one that is supposed to be going into the old Denny's. Finally my favorite the people at World Piece who have been waiting for a bit over a year now for their application approval and being a veteran women owned shop didn't help them. They ended up hiring a lawyer because people lower on the list were getting bumped over them.

Also these shops have to have established locations for the application process so unless they own the building they are renting/leasing and paying for a building while waiting for the state to get its head out of its ass.
