"Living In Chemung County, You Need To Know..."

Recommended Posts

Sometimes newcomers to the area have a hard time adjusting to life here in the area. Let's help them out.

With anything humorous, snarky, or yes, even helpful, finish this sentence:

"Living in Chemung County, you need to know..."

that you should always look both ways before driving into any intersection, no matter what color the light is.

You should know defensive driving, and use it daily.

Amen. That light turns green, wait. More often than not, someone is running that red light.

You should know that in the City of Elmira especially, bicyclists and people on those motorized scooters aren't aware of traffic laws. Of any kind. They will ride on sidewalks, the wrong way on one way streets, dodge in and out of traffic and expect you, in that hunk of metal weighing a ton or two, to yield to them.

Yesterday I saw a guy riding the wrong way on North Main St. blast into and intersection and nearly get hit. Good thing for him the driver spiked the brakes and the cyclist managed to turn just enough to avoid being hit. Of course he just kept going on his way, the wrong way, down the street.
