On Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021, in the span of just over three hours, officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to two separate reports of shots fired in the 400 block of Mackey Pl. The first shooting took place at approximately 7:42 PM and the second shooting took place at approximately 11:03 PM.  Officers interviewed people in the area of the shootings.

In the first shooting, a vehicle was seen traveling west on Mackey Pl.  As this vehicle passed the 400 block of Mackey Pl., approaching West Av., several shots were fired at this vehicle.  The vehicle then turned north on West Av. and left the area.  Shortly after the shots were fired, three people ran west on Mackey Pl. towards West Av.  One person ran north and the other two ran south.  It is unknown if these people were involved in the shooting.  Numerous shell casings were recovered from the scene.  No injuries were reported during this shooting.

The second shooting took place at approximately 11:03 PM.  Officers again responded to the 400 block of Mackey Pl. for a report of multiple gunshots.  did locate evidence at the scene that indicated shots had been fired.  Officers were unable to determine what, if anything, was struck by gunfire.  Witnesses only reported hearing gunshots, but did not observe anyone shooting.  No injuries were reported during this shooting.

My wife has heard the ones from the last 2 nights. I don't hear a thing.  They were both about a block from my house. Getting pretty sad honestly

As worrisome as these recurring reports are, at least Elmira isn't necessarily the worst around.

I've been listening regularly to an Ithaca classic rock radio station.

As a result, I hear daily news briefs from the Ithaca area.....and their shootings, stabbings and home invasions seem to be even more frequent than Elmira.

EPD has released more information about the April 12 incident:

Quote

On April 12th, 2022 at approximately 9:19pm uniformed Police Officers in a marked Elmira Police Department police vehicle attempted to conduct a field interview on a group of subjects in the area of Fulton St. and Partridge St.  As Officers attempted to conduct this stop the group split up and Officers followed the large of the groups to continue to attempt to get them to stop.  As Officers did so gun shots could be hear a short distance away at the original location of Fulton St. and Partridge St.  All individuals in the larger group began to flee on foot and Officers responded back to the area of the gun shots.  Officers and residents in the area reported hearing approximately 5-7 gun shots in 2-3 volleys.

Officers on scene did follow some of the subjects involved and as a result a search warrant was executed at a location on W. Hudson St. and a separate residence was searched a few houses away.

At this time, no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered.  Elmira Police have confirmed through video in the area that at least 2 individuals fired rounds.

Anyone who has further information is urged to contact the Elmira Police Department at 607-737-5626 or the Tip Line at 271-HALT.

Actually I believe the title of the thread was changed relatively recently since the uptick of shots fired (particularly in the Hudson St area).

No, Kevin is correct. The original post was renamed but the date remained the same.

It's been pretty quiet until this week.
