"Shots Fired In Elmira.... Again" Super Thread

Recommended Posts

On Monday, March 22nd, 2021, at approximately 8:30 P.M., the Elmira Police Department responded to the area of W. Sixth St. at Johnson St. for a report of gun shots. Officers were advised that several gun shots were heard and two white vehicles were observed leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Upon arrival in the area officers were informed that several people had been in front of a residence when several gun shots were heard.  A taller African American male was then seen running south on Johnson St. and the two white vehicles and a silver vehicle left the scene traveling north on Johnson St.  It is unknown if any of these vehicles were involved or just left the area when the shots were fired.

Officers attempted to interview the resident where the shooting occurred, however police say he was very uncooperative. This residence is the same location as the homicide that occurred on February 7th, 2021, and police say this shooting does not appear to be a random act.

If anyone was present in the area, witnessed this shooting, or has any information related to this shooting, they are encouraged to contact the Elmira Police Department at (607)737-5626, or the tip line at (607)271-HALT.

used to know the weather was getting warm when the peepers came out.....

perhaps then, if this is the same residence where the fatality occurred recently, City should shut the property down and evict the "very uncooperative" resident? if the neighborhood is not going to demonstrate zero tolerance for this bullshit then perhaps the City finally should

You never see them use that term when they talk about Elon Musk or Charlize Theron. Both of them are actual African Americans.

I remember during high school in the early 70’s you say African American they referred to themselves as Black.  I wonder how people will refer to themselves 100 years from now.

Seems like that kid’s name shows up in the local arrest reports on a weekly basis. Maybe eventually he’ll actually face some consequences.

Elmira Police are asking for the public's help as they investigate an explosion that occurred early this morning.

Police say around 1:20 this morning, the Chemung County Communications Center received several 911 calls from various location reporting hearing loud bangs, others reported hearing multiple gun shots. The source of these noises were being reported generally in the area of the Southside of Elmira.  An Elmira Police Officer also reported hearing  these loud “bangs”.

Officers were then called to an address in the 500 block of Herrick Street where a subject approached officers reporting a backpack had been “blown up” near his residence. The investigation lead officers to a backpack located in a front yard which clearly had damage consistent with an explosion with items scattered about the yard.  Several homemade type pipe bombs were seen inside this bag. Officers immediately evacuated nearby residents and a perimeter was established.

A New York State Trooper and Bomb detection K9 unit was summoned to the scene. Upon his arrival the backpack was checked by this K9 and handler which revealed more suspicious packaging, materials and substances inside the backpack.  These suspicious items and materials were collected by the bomb technician as they were deemed hazardous.

According to Elmira Police no one was injured as a result of the explosion and it is believed the intended target was known to the subjects responsible.  At this time it is not believed this is a random act and the public is not in immediate danger.

The Elmira Police Department is asking anyone with information or that may have witnessed this incident to call 607-737-5626 or anonymously to 607-271- HALT. The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the NY State Police.
