I can’t help but wonder, based on recent protests at Universities, if the quality of mental health care professionals has been compromised by the lack of actual education in that field with more focus on “equity” care.

I know a couple mental health care professionals and have also had professional insight to the mental health care system.

In short, it's completely broken.

There's simply not enough people in the field to fulfill the demand. The ones that are out there, are overworked and don't have enough hours in the day to get clients in. They care and want to help every person they can, but they're feeling the effects themselves. And it's way worse since COVID, from what I'm told.

Go to your primary care doctor because you're having issues? You'll likely end up on a medication of some kind. ( Which sometimes have potentially worse side effects than what it's supposed to "help". And God help you if you get tired of feeling those effects and quit cold turkey. ) They may try to get you in with a mental health counselor, or may give you a list of numbers to call yourself. Most, and arguably ALL of them will be so booked up they can't get you in for weeks. Meanwhile whatever crisis you're having continues to fester and worsen.

Need inpatient care? Good f--king luck. The few places that remain are either full or understaffed.

And don't even get me started on insurance.

So in short, no, it's not their education. It's the system that they're trying to work within, in a nation run by people who don't really care. Or have chosen to atone for the bad practices in the mental health field of the past by swinging the pendulum completely in the opposite direction with "feel good" policies.

I guess a question I would ask is , aren’t these professionals so called Mandated Reporters ? Not that that means much these days .

Only in states with existing Red Flag laws. Otherwise it would likely be seen as a violation of HIPPA laws.

The shooting started after a dispute between two groups broke out as hundreds of people were filing out of the bars and nightclubs in Tampa’s Ybor City neighborhood, just before 3 a.m. A 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were killed, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said.

The family of the Maine gunman who killed 18 people Wednesday contacted the local sheriff’s office in May to raise concerns about his deteriorating mental health and his access to firearms.

The new documentation from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office sheds light on two occasions when it was notified of concerns about Robert R. Card, who shot himself and was found dead days after carrying out the deadliest mass shooting in Maine’s history.

In May, according to the sheriff’s recount of their interactions, Card’s family contacted them to say Card’s “mental health had started to decline in January” and “they were concerned for his well-being and said that Mr. Card had access to firearms.”

In another instance, in September, the sheriff’s office received an alert from Card’s Army Reserve unit in Saco, asking for a wellness check on Card...

As scary as the two day manhunt had to be for the entire community......I'd have to think the family who'd reported him had extra terror wondering if he was out there coming for them.

But yet somehow it's still the guns fault.

And when bureaucracies repeatedly fail to apply existing flag laws.....somehow there aren’t enough laws and we need more.
