Beekeeper 91 Posted February 25 I am glad I have a membership in the CSA and a garden...I am just going to insulate myself ASAP from the whole mess. Trump was a better salesman about his ability to control inflation than Biden or Harris. That didn't mean he actually knew what to do...I guess we'll find out shortly. Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted February 25 Quote WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday that his tariffs on Canada and Mexico are starting next month, ending a monthlong suspension on the planned import taxes that could potentially hurt economic growth and worsen inflation. “We’re on time with the tariffs, and it seems like that’s moving along very rapidly,” the U.S. president said at a White House news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron. While Trump was answering a specific question about the taxes to be charged on America’s two largest trading partners, the U.S. president also stressed more broadly that his intended “reciprocal” tariffs were on schedule to begin as soon as April. “The tariffs are going forward on time, on schedule,” Trump said. Adam 589 Posted February 26 not that im in support 100%, but if you look at trade around the globe, it does seem american products DO get taxed unfairly when imported, compounded by many nations heavily subsidize certain sectors, and/or pay their workers very little perhaps as well as the penchant for US unions to get free reign on just about any "demand" they want, something has to give
Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted February 26 Quote In the White House briefing room Tuesday, the Trump administration announced its latest steps to tighten its grip on the message it sends out and the news coverage it receives. No longer would the White House Correspondents' Association, made up of news outlets that cover the White House, determine how they will share coverage of President Trump at major events where space is limited. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the assembled reporters the White House would make that determination instead. Leavitt said the media association previously had "dictated" who was able to report directly on Trump and with this move, she was returning "power to the people." "Legacy outlets who have participated in the press pool for decades will still be allowed to join – fear not," Leavitt said from the White House lectern. "We will also be offering the privilege to well-deserving outlets who have never been allowed to share in this awesome responsibility." Read more about it here. Adam 589 Posted February 27 I just cant anymore...its like one big internet troll-fest...this has ZERO bargaining, leverage, comedic, sane, adult, redeeming value whatsoever. though i wont go so far as the daily chicken-little-the-sky-is-falling nail biting, hair tearing route, i will say, he needs....no WE need him to either resign or 25th his ass right out of the 200 mile radius of Washington and while we are at it, be it comet, meteor or icbm, the whole of the Legislative and Executive branch members need to be put out of our misery
Beekeeper 91 Posted February 27 It is a bit much. Luckily our founders were afraid of a dictator so the Constitution and courts will not let him do 90% of what he wants. Congress not the President has the power of the purse. That's clear in the constitution. Why don't we create an amendment to change the maximum age of President, Senate and Congress? That would eliminate most of our problem. As for 25th amendment, the brain-washed Republican Congress would have to do that and Senate would have to agree. I am guessing people will be mad enough that Republicans will not be in a majority in 2 years...Hopefully that will be an improvement..
Beekeeper 91 Posted February 27 If only someone with a real background in tarriffs and economics was asked their opinion...Trump doesn't know what he's doing. He's still behaving like a real estate agent. Tell everyone what they want to hear and talk both sides into things they don't really want to do. It's all he has ever done. Might work in the real estate business. It isn't a way to run the country. I am a teacher and have taken o classes in economics. I think we need one at the cabinet level and Musk is not it. Musk and Trump are just spending all of their dad's money. Neither has earned a penny.
Beekeeper 91 Posted February 27 That actually makes sense. People were scared of what Trump might do...Now that he is beginning to do things, he is going above and beyond our worse case scenario..So I don't see this getting any better any time soon.

Then perhaps there will be room at the adults’ table for the return of sanity in the Republican Party, finally offering a clear alternative to the left’s lunacy.
Beekeeper 91 Posted February 28 I disagree..We don't need the Trump Legacy treated like Kennedy's Camelot. It needs to be a painful death so it doesn't come back.
Chris 3,628 Posted February 28 My personal beliefs keep me from wishing harm on anyone, even assholes. But it doesn’t mean I’ll mourn or feel sorry for them if harm finds them. He's almost 80 and in questionable health. It’s just a matter of time. Once he’s not here for them to attach lips to ass, you’ll see a shift in the GOP.
Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted February 28 Quote Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Friday making English the official language of the United States, according to White House officials, and scrapping requirements that federal agencies provide language services to non-English speakers. The US has never had an official language in the nearly 250 years since the country was founded. The order is intended to improve government efficiency and promote national unity, according to White House officials. Nearly 68 million of the country's 340 million residents speak a language other than English, according to the US Census Bureau, which includes more than 160 Native American tongues. Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted March 2 Quote DETROIT (AP) — At the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, a quote from former President Ronald Reagan is engraved on one wall. “Let the 5,000-mile border between Canada and the United States stand as a symbol for the future,” Reagan said upon signing a 1988 free trade pact with America’s northern neighbor. “Let it forever be not a point of division but a meeting place between our great and true friends.” But a point of division is here. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump plans to impose a 25% tariff on most imported Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on Canadian oil and gas. Mexico is also facing a 25% tariff. Canada has said it will retaliate with a 25% import tax on a multitude of American products, including wine, cigarettes and shotguns. Read more here.
Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted March 2 Quote WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation will hear a new president sing a far different tune in his prime-time address before Congress on Tuesday night. Some Americans will lustily sing along. Others will plug their ears. The old tune is out – the one where a president declares “we strongly support NATO,” “I believe strongly in free trade” and Washington must do more to promote clean air, clean water, women’s health and civil rights. That was Donald Trump in 2017. That was back when gestures of bipartisanship and appeals to national unity were still in the mix on the night the president comes before Congress to hold forth on the state of the union. Trump, then new at the job, was just getting his footing in the halls of power and not ready to stomp on everything. It would be three more years before Americans would see Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, then the House speaker and his State of the Union host in the chamber, performatively rip up a copy of Trump’s speech in disgust over its contents. On Tuesday, Americans who tune into Trump’s address will see whether he speaks to the whole country, as he mostly did in his first such speech in the chamber as president, or only to the roughly half who voted for him. Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted March 3 Quote Majorities say the state of the union is not strong, that the country is headed in the wrong direction and President Trump is rushing to make changes without considering their impact, a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll finds. There are some real warning signs for Trump, particularly with independents, who oppose his cuts to the federal government, as well as his approach to foreign policy and the economy. Most respondents expect prices to go up. They also believe federal workers are essential to making the government function and are not huge fans of Elon Musk, who is shepherding Trump's government overhaul. They don't think Trump would follow court orders springing up from his slew of executive orders, and don't believe that the U.S. system of checks and balances is working well. A slim majority of respondents — 53% — said the state of the union is either not very strong or not strong at all. A similar 54% said the country is headed in the wrong direction. Read the rest here. Beekeeper 91 Posted March 3 I am surprised he cares. He has 4 years to do whatever he wants and see what Congress will pass for him. (and which ideas the Supreme Court will let stand). Since he cannot run again anyway, does he actually care what others think? Safe to say Musk doesn't.

Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted March 4 Quote China and Canada announced retaliatory measures on Tuesday after U.S. tariffs took effect overnight, escalating trade tensions and rattling global markets. President Trump's new tariffs include a 25% levy on most imports from Canada and Mexico, with an additional 10% tariff on Canadian energy exports. Tariffs on Chinese goods were increased from 10% to 20%. Beijing responded by slapping additional tariffs of 10-15% on a variety of U.S. agricultural imports, including chicken, pork, soy and beef, starting next week, China's finance ministry announced. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, meanwhile, said Ottawa would impose immediate 25% tariffs on more than $20 billion worth of U.S. imports. Tariffs on an additional $86 billion worth of products will take effect in 21 days. Read more here.
Twin Tiers Living 558 Posted March 4 Quote Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Monday he is prepared to cut off electricity exports to the U.S. if President Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on Canadian goods go through. “If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything — including cut off their energy with a smile on my face,” Ford told reporters at a mining convention in downtown Toronto, the Toronto Sun reported. Chris 3,628 Posted March 4 Trudeau is announcing a 25% tariff on all American imports right now. Quote “The United States launched a trade war against Canada, its closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time they’re talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin: a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense,” the prime minister said. The Dow Jones is down more than another 600 points at the moment with all other markets falling as well.
