Two Charged With Animal Cruelty In Chemung

Recommended Posts

Two people are facing animal cruelty charges after several animals were found in the Town of Chemung.

According to Elmira Animal Control, on January 6th, New York State Police responded to the area of Simkin Road and Passmore Road in Chemung for a suspicious condition. The report stated that there was unusual noise coming from a wooded area. Upon investigation, troopers found a stock trailer with a horse and five pigs inside. At that time, animal control was requested to the scene.

Animal control found that the animals were in seriously poor condition with one pig deceased and the horse being emaciated. A local veterinarian was called to the scene to evaluate the animals. As a result, the horse had to be euthanized and the remaining pigs were transported to the Elmira Animal Shelter for further evaluation.

As a result of this investigation, Nikolas and Kelly Stevens, both of Chemung, were charged with six counts of Cruelty to Animals, a Class A misdemeanor. The two were released on an appearance ticket and will appear in the Town of Chemung Court at a later date.
