And there's a local connection to him as well:

Yarrow co-wrote the group’s biggest hit, “Puff the Magic Dragon,” while at Cornell University with college friend Leonard Lipton, according to the Associated Press. Despite theories it was inspired by drug usage and referenced marijuana smoke, Yarrow said it was a tale about the loss of childhood innocence as a young boy named Jackie Paper outgrows his make-believe dragon friend.

“A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys,” Yarrow said.

Bob Ueker has died:

Quote

For a backup catcher with limited physical talent, Bob Uecker enjoyed a larger-than-life career in baseball and beyond – due, in large part, to an uncanny ability to laugh at himself.

Uecker, a baseball icon, television and movie funnyman and Hall of Fame Milwaukee Brewers radio announcer, died Thursday at the age of 90, following a "private battle with small cell lung cancer," his family said in a statement.

“Ueck was the light of the Brewers, the soundtrack of our summers, the laughter in our hearts, and his passing is a profound loss," the team said in a statement. "He was the heart and soul of Wisconsin and a dear friend. Bob loved people; his presence warmed every room and he had a way of welcoming all of us into his world as if we were lifelong friends."

David Lynch also:

Director-writer David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and network television with “Twin Peaks,” has died. He was 78.

Lynch revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with emphysema after a lifetime of smoking, and would likely not be able to leave his house to direct any longer. His family announced his death in a Facebook post, writing, “There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'”

Erwin died of natural causes “around Dec. 20” in his home in Camarillo, California, his reps at the PR firm Celebworx announced.

For nearly a decade starting in 1969, Erwin was heard in dozens of TV commercials as the snarky Morris the Cat, the finicky orange tabby who would eat nothing but the 9Lives brand of cat food. The hugely successful campaign was created by the Leo Burnett advertising firm.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, a member of the all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence and known for the hit song “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” was killed early Saturday in a car crash. She was 63.

About 4 a.m., the vehicle she was riding in back to Atlanta from Alabama “flipped over and was subsequently hit by a big rig,” music producer and Stone’s longtime manager Walter Millsap III told The Associated Press in an email.

Everyone else in the cargo van survived except Stone, he said.

I just read that the investigation shows his wife died first of hanta virus and then he died about a week later. Presumably because she was his caretaker.

What an awful way to go.

And the dog starved to death. I could not imagine going that way. The only "good" thing if you can call it that was his dementia was real bad, so he might not have known what was happening.

A very sad sequence of events for sure.

Agreed.

It’s so tragic for the poor dog, and one can only hope that neither person suffered long.

With the spilled pills and her not making any distress calls, it seems like she must have expired quickly. And it’s likely that Gene (after probably missing a week of meds) had a quick cardiac event when it occurred.
