Racist Text Messages Referencing Slavery Raise Alarm In Multiple States And Prompt Investigations

Recommended Posts

Quote

WASHINGTON (AP) — Racist text messages invoking slavery raised alarm across the country this week after they were sent to Black men, women and students, including middle schoolers, prompting inquiries by the FBI and other agencies.

The messages, sent anonymously, were reported in several states, including New York, Alabama, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. They generally used a similar tone but varied in wording.

Some instructed the recipient to show up at an address at a particular time “with your belongings,” while others didn’t include a location. Some of them mentioned the incoming presidential administration.

It wasn’t yet clear who was behind the messages and there was no comprehensive list of where they were sent, but high school and college students were among the recipients.

The FBI said it was in touch with the Justice Department on the messages, and the Federal Communications Commission said it was investigating the texts “alongside federal and state law enforcement.”

This is an obviously well orchestrated effort to cause division in our society. The question is, who is responsible? Is it

  • Truly a right-wing or white supremacy group
  • Russia or some other foreign actor
  • Or a "false flag" effort by a leftist group to wind up civil strife as Trump prepares to take office again

I don't know for sure but I think any of those are equally possible. The key is for people to keep a level head until the investigation uncovers the truth. And not just the "truth" that someone on social media wants you to think.

It doesn’t help that so called journalists and talk shows like the View are still pushing Trump as a dictator and what he’s going to take from you, round you up, etc.  Stop, take a deep breath, and think for yourself for once instead.  Did any of that happen 4 years ago?

I honestly don’t understand how any rational person could actually believe something like this.  It’s the same as the scam phone calls that say you have an outstanding warrant, or emails telling you this or that so call this number or click this link.

I don’t think anyone actually believes they’re being sent to a plantation, but they'd still be right to be upset/disgusted to receive this message out of the blue - it’s just pure racism

Whoever is doing it knows what they’re doing. They’re playing off of and exploiting whatever angst is already out there already.

Its more psy-ops than anything.

Absolutely, I agree.  I remember all the times I reached out to my tech guy whenever I got those emails 😉

I guess I don’t understand the angst part over an election.

I check my email, FB to post a good morning or funny meme, Pinterest and this site.  About an hour a day total and I’m done 😂

Eh, it all depends on what you focus on. Mine is narrowed down to the things I like to see and the rest falls off as I ignore it.

Well if you’re a 20 year old who’s been spoonfed “orange man bad Nazi taking your rights away” and all that, you might.

Interestingly, I had a conversation with a friend who is in her thirties when all that abortion stuff was happening. She confided that it wasn’t that big a deal to her, she was kinda ambivalent about the whole thing.

But there’s a lot of weirdos online right now, cutting their purple hair off in protest of Trumps resounding victory and that’s what sells soap 🤷‍♂️

When I get board of my own stuff I’ll go through the popular stuff and that’s where all the garbage is.

The fact that it seems only black victims have received these vile attacks should help authorities at least identify the sources/databases that the worthless POS breached to carry this out.

Few services or companies that I have ever registered my phone number into databases from commercial sources classify users by race.  So, we can rule out most phone apps, web pages, subscriptions, etc. Government programs definitely track demographics....but not likely that any federal agency (or multiple state agencies) got hacked without someone noticing.

That leaves phone lists from institutions and organizations with specifically black membership (colleges, churches, NAACP, political PACs, etc)

Unfortunately.....the guilty party is likely a foreign entity that the US won’t be able to hold accountable.  🤬
