NFL 2024 Season Open Chat

Thanks to the power being out I didn’t get to see yesterday’s pre-season Bills v Bears but it sounds like the Bills didn’t do so hot. And of course people are losing their minds.

Thing is, it’s pre-season, an amped up practice really. This week they’ll look at the tapes, make corrections and learn from it.

On the other hand, from what I saw of the Giants-Lions game, NY was looking pretty good.

Giants-Lions was my introduction to Nate Sudsfield and it was all I needed to determine he should ever hold a football again, because he certainly doesn’t know what to do with it. Good god, keep that man away from the Lions.

Hendon Hooker on the other hand? Oh man, that dude has QB2 all over him. Good throws and fantastic speed, he’s got it. Shame he was out on concussion protocol later, meant Sudsfield was back

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes thought for a moment that the Chiefs were headed to overtime. So did Ravens counterpart Lamar Jackson, who had found Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone with no time left for a touchdown that appeared to tie the game.

In the end, the NFL’s season opener Thursday night was decided by referee Shawn Hochuli undertaking a video review.

With a capacity crowd that included pop superstar Taylor Swift waiting in anticipation, Hochuli needed just seconds looking at that final play before making his announcement: Likely landed with his toe on the endline, putting the Baltimore tight end out of bounds, and giving the Chiefs a 27-20 victory as they began pursuit of a record third consecutive Super Bowl title.

“Definitely nerve-wracking because it looked good from my angle on the sideline,” Mahomes said, “but then the first view you could see his cleat. ... You have to wear white cleats next time. That’s my advice for him.”

Man that was a good game last night. The Bills brought their A-game and dominated Miami.

But:

That was an ugly hit, though it was more Tua hitting Hamlin than the other way around. That's what, his 4th concussion now? I don't know how much more that poor kid can take.

He seemed to "posture" when he hit the ground and all I could think of was, "F--k..."

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but they lost one of their top offensive players in running back Isiah Pacheco, who left the stadium in a walking boot after suffering a lower leg injury. Pacheco is expected to miss at least four games as CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones confirms he's heading to injured reserve.

Pacheco would be eligible to return in Week 8 at the earliest, with the belief he could be sidelined longer, Jones reports. He's set to undergo more testing for an injured fibula, per ESPN. Based on tests, he fractured his fibula, according to NFL Media.

My fantasy team started with Christian McCaffery, Puka Nacua, and Isiah Pacheco. Absolutely cursed

I kinda get where he’s coming from, the frustration at least. They don’t call it “armchair quarterbacking” for nothing.

Orchard Park, N.Y. — When players aren’t practicing, in meetings or playing in games, they can still be taking part in activities that involve the game.

That’s exactly what Amari Cooper was doing on Tuesday afternoon as the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns were finalizing a trade for the wide receiver. During Buffalo’s 34-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the CBS broadcast team revealed that Cooper was in the midst of a commitment signing Browns memorabilia. As soon as he finished his two hour session, Cooper found out that he had been traded to Buffalo.

I just saw that ankle injury Chris Goodwin sustained last night. Damn, that was ugly.

Well, watch it on YouTube I guess.

Not to mention Mike Evans going out in the same game with a hamstring injury. Bad night for Buccaneers fans!

So last night marked 5-0 for what Lions fans are calling the “Honolulu Blue Flu” - every team since the Rams that have played the Lions proceeded to lose the following week; Rams, Cardinals, Buccaneers, Seahawks and Vikings. If Cowboys lose Sunday they’ll also be counted since their bye was after the Lions loss. Pretty funny coincidence, that hopefully doesn’t continue when the Bills and Lions play!

I’ve seen this several times from the Bill social media stuff:

Opposing teams holding a prayer circle before or after the game. You don’t see that on TV though ( at least I haven’t. )

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Saquon Barkley had little choice after a nasty spin move left him slightly sideways, forcing him to jump — make it, leapfrog backward.

Barkley’s rear end sailed over Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones’ lowered head in an extraordinary hurdle for the Eagles running back that had mouths agape around the NFL on Sunday — and even left Lakers star LeBron James awestruck.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott’s injured hamstring is partially torn away from the bone and surgery for the star quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys is possible, a person with knowledge of the situation said Thursday.

The injury, known as a partial avulsion, is likely to lead to an absence longer than the minimum of four games that would be required by putting Prescott on injured reserve.

Potentially season-ending surgery is among the options being considered, the person told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t disclosed details of Prescott’s injury publicly. NFL Network was the first to report the extent of Prescott’s injury.
