There is so much neglect in the town of Southport as I stated previously

not much any County Legislator can do.

you and as many neighbors you can muster, need to show up to meetings, with facts and numbers, and put those you all feel are in need of replacement on record for their positions. Once you have this, you can also choose candidates to replace them, and work hard at it, do not take one vote for granted. may not happen first election cycle, learn from it and plan for the following

Also when looking for a replacement don't focus on parties. Find someone to challenge them in a primary that way they are spending money to win the primary and don't have as much available for the general. And for the love of everything make sure whomever you are running runs as either a Rep or Dem. They can also have the backing of a 3rd party, but you need a lot of votes and just being in a 3rd party won't cut it.

Also running multiple people to dilute the vote can work in your favor. That's how Bill McCarthy (full disclosure I like Bill) won last year. The Republicans had 2 people running 1 as a Rep and 1 in a right sided 3rd party and combined they got more votes than Bill, but since they split the vote he won.

I don't know how anyone could possibly not like Bill. He's thoughtful, fair and a humble & sincere public servant.

The fact that blew my mind was the REP candidate came within 100 votes....after he got there by accident when he put his own name as a write-in, and that single vote won the primary.

I also respect the Libertarian candidate that ran for that seat, but Bill's earned the respect he has.

Craig Colwell...12th district.

The only reason there was a primary for Ackerman to write himself in was because Colwell filed Opportunity to Ballot (only to be later informed that only write-in for registered REPs were valid).

1. because too many people are stuck in the "Vote Blue or Vote Red if you want change" never realizing the irony and futility of that very way of electing offices.

2. At least he went beyond social media and made an attempt.

Craig is a decent guy I got to meet him when he ran for city council.

Maybe no one voted for him, but those that did was enough to all Bill to keep his position.

I know a Republican that may challenge Bill in the next election

On the lastest news in Southport the board still hasn't come to an agreement on what to do with the trailer park and empty houses on the street and for some reason they refuse to paint lines on the roads.

For sure!

Strange truly represents the whole county! He's one of the few that I feel term limits may be less applicable. The "non consecutive" clause will allow him to run again if (after 2030) his predecessor doesn't meet that district's needs.

He really doesn't do to much for his district at all other then a mile of highway he cleans up

Part one of the Southport shenanigans so now Chemung County  now owns the trailer park in Southport, along with the seven residents that are there hopefully they found some housing for them and not just kick them out and add to the already homeless problem. Why aren't  our County executives dealing with this? Why isn't our representative like Rodney J. Strange - 15th District Chemung County Legislator  strange dealing with this? This has been a problem for far too long and now that the owner of the trailer park is backed out now you don't know what to do with the property. If you want to actually do something for the community then do the job the people who elected you to do . Or should we call for a special election .

Complaining here is not doing any good. They should doze the park and put in a splash pad.

Rodney, ( or any county legislator for that matter ) isn't in a position to swoop in and undermine or supercede what the town government is doing in Southport, Wellsburg, or any other township that falls in his district. He is simply your representative at the county level.

If I was in their position I make sure those families are in an apartment before anything else , removing the remaining trailers there, they are going to have to survey the ground because they don't know what buried there, after all that said and done let the field grow keep it maintained and place affordable tiny houses 🏘️ just an idea.

You have to keep pushing forward to make a change , or change your approach to make them see your point . Swimming upstream is never easy , just ask a Salmon !
