Police Investigate Break In At Curly's Chicken House ** UPDATE **

The Chemung County Sheriff's Department is investigating a break in at Curly's Chicken House located at 2100 Lake Road in Horseheads that happened over the weekend.

According to Sheriff William Schrom, at around 9:50pm on Sunday night, the suspect broke out the window of the restaurant at the pick-up counter and entered the building. The suspect then tried to steal a cash register drawer, however they lft it behind because it did not fit inside the backpack he was carrying. The suspect then stole a couple of other items before exiting the building through the broken window.

The suspect is described as a black male with black braids. At the time of the burglary he was wearing white shoes, blue jeans, a tan, web style belt and a black sweater with the word "Feast" on the back. He was carrying a black, red, and white Fila brand backpack. He was riding a dark colored bicycle with pink writing and a dark colored bag attached to the handlebars.

Police also note that the suspect sustained a laceration when entering the building that bled profusely. 

Anyone who may have seen the suspect or have information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Division at (607) 737-2933.

Well, dude has left his DNA behind. Bleeding does that to people. Hopefully the PD is able to use it.

UPDATE:

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 22-year-old Christopher T. Brown of Georgia for Burglary in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony Offense, of the New York State Penal Law.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, Elmira Police arrested Brown on unrelated charges in the City of Elmira. One of the officers recognized Brown from the Sheriff’s Facebook page and notified the Sheriff’s Office who responded and took custody of Brown.
 
Brown was interviewed by a Sheriff’s Investigator at which time he confessed to the burglary at Curly’s Chicken House.
 
BROWN was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree and taken to the Town of Horseheads Court for arraignment. Due to Bail Reform, Brown was released on his own recognizance and ordered to reappear before the court at a later date. He is facing additional charges related to the investigation pending a grand jury.

So two arrests/charges in a single day (including a confession)....and bail reform still doesn't allow an out of town flight risk to be remanded.

What a farce.
