Russia-Ukraine War Thread

If no other country is willing to send troops to Ukraine, I'd say the beginning of the end is near.  It's sad that someone wants to help Russia but no one wants to help the Ukraine.

i do honestly believe that Russia is in serious need of being tossed back out of crimea and taken to task over its aggression and possible war crimes. i also believe that the US cannot, and should not be the go-to when military response is considered, its gotten the Nation to the point where everyone hates us but loves our money(possibly as a means of weakening over the long game). EU/Nato Nations have close to, if not over, 1 million active duty soldiers; perhaps THEY should be front line intervention this time around

North Korea stepping into the fight definitely ups the ante right now.

The very idea that the U.S should be the Country to lead the way against Putin just flames my ass ! The EU/ Nato , Phht , what a joke … they get us involved in conflicts where They should be heading up the charge ( so to speak ) then when the U.S , the Cavalry if you will , puts boots on the ground They , especially NATO lead the charge from Behind… literally ! Then when things start going down the crapper they are the First to pull out of the situation leaving Our Military to bear the Losses ! I have seen their antics close up and personal and it is my opinion that the EU and NATO Countries have the most at stake in this conflict . But obviously European Countries have forgotten the lessons of their Own History!

MANAUS, Brazil (AP) — President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied missiles to strike deeper inside Russia, easing limitations on the longer range weapons as Russia deploys thousands of North Korean troops to reinforce its war, according to a U.S. official and three other people familiar with the matter.

The decision allowing Kyiv to use the Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMs, for attacks farther inside Russia comes as President Vladimir Putin positions North Korean troops along Ukraine’s northern border to try to reclaim hundreds of miles of territory seized by Ukrainian forces.

Biden’s move also follows the presidential election victory of Donald Trump, who has said he would bring about a swift end to the war and raised uncertainty about whether his administration would continue the United States’ vital military support for Ukraine.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The Kremlin warned Monday that President Joe Biden’s decisionto let Ukraine strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles adds “fuel to the fire” of the war and would escalate international tensions even higher.

Biden’s shift in policy added an uncertain, new factor to the conflict on the eve of the 1,000-day milestone since Russia began its full-scale invasion in 2022.

Is offering (or 'continuing') support really the same thing as facilitating escalation?

It seems like there's been a steady "blurring" of language.

If one of those missiles takes out a barracks full of North Korean soldiers, it could get ugly fast.

Oh, it keeps getting better:

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday formally lowered the threshold for Russia’s use of its nuclear weapons, a move that follows U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russian territory with American-supplied longer-range missiles.

The new doctrine allows for a potential nuclear response by Moscow even to a conventional attack on Russia by any nation that is supported by a nuclear power.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine claimed Thursday that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile overnight at one of its cities. If confirmed, it would be the first time Moscow has used such a weapon in the war.

Ukraine did not provide any evidence that an ICBM was used in the attack on the central city of Dnipro, apparently armed with conventional warheads.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a missile used “matches the speed and altitude” of an ICBM. The Kremlin refused to comment on the strike.

The attack comes in a week when tensions have repeatedly soared, as the U.S. eased restrictions on Ukraine’s use of American-made longer-range missiles inside Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin lowered the threshold for launching nuclear weapons.

The range of an ICBM — which can exceed 5,500 kilometers (3,400 miles) — is beyond what is needed to attack Ukraine. But such missiles are designed to carry atomic warheads, and the use of one, even with a conventional payload, would serve as a chilling reminder of Russia’s nuclear capability. It also appears to send a message to Ukraine’s Western allies that Moscow has the ability to target them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is preparing to send Ukraine an additional $725 million in military assistance, including counter-drone systems and munitions for its High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, which could indicate more of the longer-range missiles are headed to the battlefield.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. intelligence assessment has concluded that Russia may use its lethal new intermediate-range ballistic missile against Ukraine again in “coming days,” a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The experimental Oreshnik missile is seen by U.S. officials more as an attempt at intimidation than a game-changer on the battlefield in Ukraine, according to a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive information.

The official said Russia has only a handful of the missiles and that they carry a smaller warhead than other missiles that Russia has regularly launched at Ukraine.

Russia first fired the the weapon in a Nov. 21 missile attack against the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Surveillance camera video of the strike showed huge fireballs piercing the darkness and slammed into the ground at astonishing speed.
