The City of Elmira Department of Public Works (DPW) is pleased to announce the upcoming Paving of the following City streets.

North Main Street – Water Street to Second Street
Church Street – North Main Street to Guinnip Ave

Paving of these Streets will begin Tuesday May 9th. During Tuesday’s Paving… North Main Street and Church St will be shut down for all vehicle traffic on N Main St (Water to Second) and on Church St (N. Main to Columbia St).

Downtown businesses will remain open as usual but vehicle traffic will not be able to access North Main St. or Church St, only foot traffic will be allowed due to construction.

On Wednesday May 10 th Paving will continue down the Westbound lane of Church St from Columbia St to Guinnip Ave. Traffic will remain open in the Eastbound lane with flagger assistance.

On Thursday May 11 th paving will continue down the Eastbound lane of Church St from Columbia St. to Guinnip Ave. Traffic will then remain open in the Westbound lane with flagger assistance.

Any instance of heavy rain on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday could possibly push the above work and information back a day.

We highly urge people to use Water St or other streets close by for easier travels for these 3 days.

Crews will notify residents and businesses before the paving takes place.

Please have vehicles removed from the street and out of your driveways before 6:00a.m.of the day your area will be milled or paved. Wednesday will be all even numbered houses that need to be out of their driveways and Thursday will be all odd numbered houses that need to be out of their driveways.

The streets will be reopened when paving is completed. Notices will be distributed to affected residents and businesses prior to the start of each road’s paving.

Our planned work is subject to change based on weather and contracted equipment availability. As always, please drive carefully through work zones, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation with the prep and construction work on these streets prior to the Mill and Fill paving.
