  2. On March 15th 2024 at approximately 01:10PM, officers with the Elmira Police Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of Johnson St for a shooting. Officers located two gun shot victims at the location and emergency medical care was provided. Both victims, one male juvenile and one male adult, were transported to local hospitals by Erway Ambulance for further medical treatment. Investigators with the Elmira Police Department Detective Bureau conducted interviews and canvassed the immediate neighborhood. At this time, it is believed that this shooting took place in the course of a home invasion robbery and that the residence was specifically targeted. This incident remains an on-going active investigation. The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the Elmira Fire Department, and Erway Ambulance.   3. On November 27th 2023 at about 11:00am, Officers with the Elmira Police Department responded to the 200 block of W Water St in the Downtown Business District for a reported shooting. An adult male gun shot victim was located in critical condition and emergency medical care was provided. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Erway Ambulance for further medical treatment. Through investigation, it was determined that the assailant was operating a motorized mini-bike when shots were fired at the victim on the sidewalk. A suspect known to the victim was established and an authorized search warrant was executed later that day at an address on the South Side of Elmira. Evidence of the shooting was recovered and subsequently submitted to the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center for analysis. In March of 2024, this case was presented to the Chemung County Grand Jury. As a result, 26 year old Elmira resident Reginald McBride was indicted on the crimes of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Reginald McBride remains in the custody of the Chemung County Jail. The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, West Elmira Police Department, Elmira Fire Department, and Erway Ambulance.
  4. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 46-year old Javar A. Miller of Larchmont Rd. in the Town of Elmira, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, offense of the New York State Penal Law. Miller was arrested subsequent to an investigation into a domestic incident that occurred on February 14, 2024. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained by the Criminal Investigation Division and executed at 779 Larchmont Rd. The search warrant lead to an unregistered semi automation handgun being located in the residence. Miller was arrested on the aforementioned charge and issued an appearance ticket to appear in front of the Elmira Town Court on a later date. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Elmira Police Department.
